Trials should be conducted within the context of making it widely available.
And I suspect Trump is going to win on this.

Bingo. That is exactly what should happen and what I expect to happen. Give the drug to anyone who meets the following criteria:

They test positive for the Coronavirus
They are willing to take it.

Then track that group vs those who turn down the treatment. You would start to the results in a couple of weeks and settle the issue in a couple of months.

If Trump is smart that is what’s going to happen. If he leaves it up to the FDA we will wait a year.

And if that turns out OK then start selling it at CVS and Walgreens and let people decide for themselves what they want to do.

And Trump has already implemented “Right to Try” for drugs that haven’t cleared FDA approval for those who are very I’ll. This could probably fall under that criteria.
