According to Agence France-Presse:
Police in China’s virus epicentre Wuhan acted “inappropriately” by punishing a doctor who blew the whistle on the outbreak that has now killed more than 9,000 worldwide, a Chinese government investigation found Thursday.

Li Wenliang, one of a group of doctors in Wuhan who shared posts on social media warning of a SARS-like virus spreading in the city in December, was reprimanded by police for sharing the information and made to sign a statement agreeing not to commit any more “law-breaking actions.”

Li’s death from the virus in February prompted a national outpouring of grief as well as anger at the government’s handling of the crisis, and bold demands for freedom of speech.

The police issued an apology after the result of the investigation was published, drawing a new round of criticism on Twitter-like Weibo, with people saying it was too little, too late.

But, as the locals say, it’s not good enough. The doctor is dead, so he’s an easy one to exonerate. What about the ones who are still in jail for sounding the warnings? They’re still there. What about the ones who kept silent even though they also knew what was going on? They’re still there, too, and probably an even bigger hurdle for enacting a solution than the now-punished dissidents. It’s a system that’s a problem, a system that doesn’t value free speech, doesn’t value transparency of information, yet demands to be part of the free-world global economy as a dominant player.

Sure, but we need to clean up our act re: business with China regardless.

And government tyranny over the freedom of citizens is easily repeatable too.

Taiwan and South Korea already learned this lesson. Taiwan was very pro-active in figuring out what was going on in Wuhan and not listening to the ChiComs.

The SoS is correct - there is nothing stopping the ChiComs to unleash another chinese virus on the world and destroy lives and economies...

it may not be next year, but guaranteed another outbreak within the decade.

When compared to other catastrophes, this one doesn't even rank a footnote. That is other than the panic, hysteria and malphesence of shutting down everything without even knowing the degree of threat.

Historically this will go down as an example of a world gone nuts.

When barely educated people that I have talked to, they express concerns that this is way overblown.

They need to clean up both their bio-warfare facilities and their exotic bush-meat markets. Might help it they weren’t in the same cities, too. But I suppose there is the slim chance that was intentional.

We did not allow immigration from China between 1890-1965, and banned immigrants from all of Asia between 1915-1965.

China needs to be excoriated and ostracized to become the true hermit empire. They do not now and never have been worth of being citizens of the family of nations.

If there is justice China will wither from their preeminence.

The next thing I fear is once China is ostracized the will fight back with the only thing they have left. One problem at a time though.

I am grateful we have the leadership in the administration we do now. I’m not so much pleased with the congress and certainly not with the media.

We need a total and permanent embargo of anything and everything from China. Nothing to or from. Nothing. And they need to pay for all the damage they’ve done.
