Interesting. The stuff I read was that chloroquine is still being actively and regularly used to treat for malaria in those regions. If the locals had built up an immunity to malaria, they wouldn't still be considered malaria hotspots. The cited map of areas affected by malaria would be blank.
Still looking through as much as I can on the subject.
