Winston Churchill in 1945 said that Labour would soon have its own Gestapo. He was right about the idea, but wrong about “soon”. It took time. Not that that has anything to do with the topic of this thread.
In 1945, British voters said “six years of blood, toil, tears, sweat, and austerity, is bloody ENOUGH!!”
Atlee and Labour promised pie in the sky, and the masses went for it. They were so good at it that Churchill was returned to office in 1951.
Meanwhile, wartime austerity rules would not be lifted until 1954.
Nowadays, UK has its own Gestapo: British police arresting citizens caught criticizing Islam online.
Back to topic: PDJT’s reelection, as noted, has gone from sure thing to uncertain in a few weeks of foreign-borne pandemic. Every vote will have to be fought for and complacency is deadly, now.
