Convicted Ex-Rep. Duncan Hunter was sentenced on Tuesday to 11 months in prison with three years of supervised probation after he pleaded guilty to a single corruption charge.
Family, friends and lawyers say the California Republican is a devoted father and proud former Marine who should be shown some mercy for making mistakes after returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Prosecutors paint a different picture. They have submitted 87 pages of details to U.S. District Court Judge Thomas J. Whelan ahead of Tuesday's sentencing that shows a corrupt congressman who intentionally and repeatedly stole from his campaign funds for a decade.
The funds bankrolled private school tuition for his children, his wife's shopping sprees, weekend trips with his mistress and drinking parties in Washington.
A broke and debt-saddled Hunter also cavalierly spent campaign money on small things, such as a tin of chewing tobacco, and a copy of the book, "Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid," according to prosecutors.

This is Duncan Hunter Jr, not Duncan Hunter who ran for President in 2008.
“Why We Suck: A Feel Good Guide to Staying Fat, Loud, Lazy and Stupid,”
Should be required reading for every Congreecritter
Well, if this person gets sent to jail, there should be others with last names like Biden, Clinton, etc who should join him .
Whelan was nominated by President Bill Clinton on June 4, 1998, to a seat vacated by John Skylstead Rhoades Sr.
Just sayin’...
rats go free all others must pay
ONLY REPUBLICANS GO TO PRISON!
ONLY REPUBLICANS GO TO PRISON!
How many months did Hillary get for destroying government property? There is no justice in America as long as the Clintons walk free.
If Hunter got busted for corruption what about 90% of the rest of congress?
No word from democrats
McCabe, Strozk, Comey, Paige, Clinton, Brennan, Clapper et al get a free pass for far more serious crimes. A long way to go Mr. Trump. The guess here is that Barr & Durham will come up with nothing, maybe a letter in their file.
why is she still in the country
Trump should pardon every Republican convicted of a federal crime until justice is finally applied equally. Aside from Carlos Danger I cant even remember a Democrat going to prison.
” Aside from Carlos Danger I cant even remember a Democrat going to prison.”
Pretty sure they excommunicated him so he doesn’t even count as a Democrat.
Duncan Hunter, Jr. was prosecuted by both Attorneys General Jeff Session’s and Bill Barr’s Department of Justice.
They made the sentencing recommendation to the judge.
Just sayin’!
These are good questions. I think the answer involves protected classes and lots of political correctness.
Any Republican politician that gets in office who thinks he can “play the game” & have the “perks” like his Rat counterparts deserves everything that happens to him !
