‘I’m an essential business’: Gun shops in Pa. packed ahead of coronavirus closures

Gun shops across Pennsylvania have been packed this week, with shoppers buying up ammunition and firearms as uncertainty about the federal response to the coronavirus pandemic continued and Governor Wolf ordered the closure of all non-essential businesses in the state by midnight on Monday.

At some shops, lines stretched out the door.

“It’s insane right now, I’ve got three lines going,” said Jeff Rodemyer, owner of Bluestone Firearms in York.

“The whole shop is filled up,” said Joe Staudt, owner of Staudt’s Gun Shop in Harrisburg. He estimates he’s ten times busier than normal.

Staudt plans to keep slinging ammo as long as he can. “The governor said midnight. So we’re going to stay open as long as the background check system is working,” he said.

So we’re going to stay open as long as the background check system is working

Another reason to not have background checks. Background checks never stopped criminals from stealing guns. They only infringe on law abiding citizens rights.

Oh, great. Now a lousy couple of dozen firearms is gonna be considered hoarding.

hoarding?

Having one black gun (that's racist, you know) and two boxes of ammo is an arsenal.

The shooting industry as a whole was in need of boost. Every since the all the time best salesman left office sales have tapered off.

Interesting that I live 20 miles from Harrisburg and never heard of Staudt’s.

Wolf didn’t order a shutdown. He used language to make it look like he did (”all non-essential stores are to close” etc.) but in fact, it’s just a recommendation. The lack of clarity from government and press on this is pitiful.

Marvelous... abortion is an essential service now. But I guess some thought it always was.

And in California, they are rushing to the gun stores, and are shocked,SHOCKED! to find they still have to wait ten days, just like they did during the LA riots.

“BUT I NEED IT NOW!”

The unwashed masses, the sheep, they never learn. There should be no panic demand for guns and ammo these days.

People were lined up to buy guns at Dick’s Sporting Goods near me.

Dick’s. Really.

I was there to refill CO2 canisters and they are the only game in town for that.

Dick’s? I won’t go there for anything. Years back they carded me for a gun related purchase - not a gun, not ammo. I’m not giving any stinkin’ business my ID to buy something perfectly legal and when the state doesn’t require ID. The manager at Dicks said it was company policy. So I left what I was going to buy at the counter and exited the store. Haven’t been back since.

My only choice for CO2 tank refills...and that’s pretty much it for me, too.
