Illinois voters will still face a dizzying choice of 13 presidential candidates if they choose to vote in the states Democratic Primary even though less than a handful are still in the race.
Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg became the latest to fold his candidacy on Wednesday, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is said to be reassessing her run.
But both names are on early voting touch screens and will appear on March 17 ballots.
With the dust still settling from Super Tuesday, the remaining candidates probably have other concerns than losing a few sympathy votes to departed rivals two weeks from now. If Warren drops out, the field will be down to former Vice President Joe Biden, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and Hawaii Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.
But its too late for Illinois election officials to remove the names of Bloomberg, Warren, Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar, former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg, hedge fund manager Tom Steyer, entrepreneur Andrew Yang, Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet or former Maryland U.S. Rep. John Delaney. New Jersey Sen. Corey Booker will also be listed, even though he dropped out more than seven weeks ago.
As of this morning, Tuesday, March 17 at 6:15 a.m., there is currently NO VOTING at Village Hall, and likely other Village of Barrington polling places, due to a lack of election judge volunteers reporting for duty. Unfortunately we do not have any further information for our residents as to where or how to vote at this time.
Cook County Elections Department leases space for elections; Village Hall is one of those spaces. We provide the building, but do not provide judges, nor do we have any authority to do so.
Before you head to your polling place today, please contact your election board for further information
All thirteen are on the ballot in Florida.
“..even though less than a handful are still in the race... “
Of course it’s intentional, because who could be so stupid as to NOT reprint the ballots?
I mean-it’s a pure gold pretext for a ‘do over’!
The long list will cause confusion and longer lines. The young people will bail out of line.
In most of the state, ballots are electronic rather than printed. It used to be easier to remove names from printed ballot booklets by affixing labels to the booklets covering the names of candidates who were removed or dropped out. It is harder to reprogram the computers.
One wonders how many voters do not want to use touch screens today for fear of COVID-19 spread.
It is a democrat primary where hordes of LIVs exist to procreate
Right-that’s what I meant-were they too lazy or just too stupid to make the necessary corrections...what ever was involved? They certainly had enough time to update the names
It may all be part of a plan to demand a ‘do-over’
If they’re not smart enough to know who’s in and who’s out, their vote NEEDS to be wasted.
Tuesday: I went to the poll at 0700 right after I got off from work. There was one other fellow waiting and a third came in while I was there. Wife went over at 1230 and says there were two other people while she was there. Maybe the candidates will get more delegates than votes in Florida.
The vote result really doesn’t matter. DNC can change the rules any time DNC wants to do that right up to election day.
In Florida this location, anyway, uses paper ballots which are then inserted into a machine that counts the little filled in ovals. Of course one cannot know how the machine assigned the vote but I suspect that part was probably honest as there is a paper vote record now and this year the paper ballots are to be used in any recount. In the past we had that paper record but state law banned using the paper ballots to recount..
