Seattle will provide $800 each in vouchers to more than 6,000 families to help them buy food, cleaning supplies and other household goods at Safeway supermarkets during the coronavirus pandemic, Mayor Jenny Durkan said Monday.
Pending City Council approval this week, the funding will come from Seattles sugary beverage tax revenues, the Mayors Office said.
We know that working families in Seattle are already struggling because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Durkan said in a statement, referring to the illness caused by the virus. As schools and child care facilities close, we need to do everything we can to support families and ensure they can put food on the table.

I temporarily identify as all 6000 seattle families- and noone better deny me the right to do so- Where can i change my birf cirtifakat?
Legal residents need not apply.
FIRST IN LINE
Someone on the council must be friends or family with a Safeway exec. Steering all the money to that store and also having them sign up for targeted advertising.
Touted as being only for food, but we all recognize that money is fungible; this cash frees up other money to be used for whatever, so there is really no constraint on its spending.
Citizens need not apply.
Don’t worry, you’ll be able to buy the cards for a fraction. Cant buy booze and pot with the card, but you can one you launder it. There will be plenty out there for sale.
Oh GREAT that would be wonderful however the supermarkets are completely EMPTY because of hysteria!!!
Great, it’ll be like WIC and EBT - load up on lobster and cheese and give/sell it to your friends and family.
Soon to be posted on Craig’s List for sale food voucher value $800 asking $500
4.8 million dollars split over how many PEOPLE, not the notion of 6,000 “families”. How many people and for how long will this “help them up” or just in reality “pissing into the stinky disease laden typhoid spreading wind” from the fens they live in?
Assuming there is anything left in the stores to buy.
The “working families” are having a hard time in Seattle because of the Marxist wackjobs who have been mayors and on the city council for the past 20-30 years, as well as having Marxist governors who have made a once beautiful city into a drug-addiction/trafficking center of the state.
Every penny going to the bums that shit and piss in the streets like they own town.
Empty of a lot of things yes, but I noticed today the beer aisles are still pretty full.
Send them a loaf of bread, jar of peanut butter and jar of jelly. Gallon of milk and box of cereal.
But the idiot parents our there probably can’t figure out what to do with them.
Thank God
Also TANF - Temporary Assistance for Needy Families - which I think is paid in cash-on-a-card.
Also WIC - Food for Women, Infants, and Children
I can see some need for assistance for families who have kids that eat one or two meals at school each day.
All our schools have been closed.
Also - I would not want to be eating at any Free Kitchens or sleeping in a homeless shelter during the COVID-19 outbreak.
Can they combine this with voter registration and absentee ballots?
Connect the quid with quo.
Why do they always call them “working families”?
