How could Germany close any borders, except that it shares with Switzerland? I thought all EU countries had to have open borders with other EU countries?
Don’t know for sure but I would guess they declare a national emergency.
The EU would do best to say nothing unless they want a raft of countries going for the Exit.
Some kind of emergency waiver rule exists. If you show up at the border now....regional state police are there and monitor the road or autobahn point. Huge drain on resources...they weren’t manned for a long-term mission like this.
Wouldn’t surprise me if they extend this at the end of four weeks, and ask German military to assist in border-control. Cops racking up a serious amount of over-time hours.
