So let’s see if I have this right: washing your hands vigorously with soap and water kills the coronavirus because soap shatters the lipid membranes of the virus? In other words, the virus is fat. Can it be fat-shamed then? Is the CDC not recommending this because fat-shaming is not PC? I’m skeptical: I wash my whole body vigorously with soap and water in the shower every day, but it seems to be completely ineffective in breaking down and reducing my personal lipids.

Meanwhile, I can’t believe it hasn’t occurred to any leftist conspiracy theorists that this whole virus thing is a conspiracy of Big Toilet Paper. After all, the dreaded Koch brothers own Georgia-Pacific, which manufactures . . . toilet paper. (Headline hat tip: reader RS.)

From my vague recollections of chemistry, soap has a pH of about 9 - strong enough to dissolve the bonds of dirt, grime, bacteria and viruses to your skin, but not strong enough to dissolve the chemical bonds which hold your skin together, which is what would be needed to wash away the body fat under the skin. For that you need stronger bases like sodium hydroxide, which will dissolve that annoying skin and allow direct access to body fat. A high tolerance for pain is recommended.
