If only we could get the rest of the Senate and House to Quarantine themselves without communication with the rest of the country through the election in November.

not being combative, actually would like to understand the numeric range where you would think it was a big deal?

italy has definitely gotten the policy folks’ attention. I would not be surprised to see 1-2 thousand a day dying in 2 weeks. does sound crazy? it does to me and I believe it it likely. at this point it is math. nothing about the modeled behavior has deviated much since data started coming out late jan/early feb, though the overall spread has been a bit slower than I feared.

it is crazy contagious. furin enzyme cleavage is a huge advantage for it. the real question is what is the ultimate real fatality rate (not the funny number rate people come up with using the wrong variables).

A recent statistical analysis of two areas of the outbreak in Asia showed that more than 50% of cases in the areas studied were transmitted by the virus carrier prior to the onset of their own symptoms.

The self quarantine is not about stopping Cruz from getting it. It’s about preventing others, including his staff and wife and kids, from potentially getting it from him.

Why not split up congress, send them all home and do virtual sessions? If you get the bastards out of Washington you take away a whole lot of their power and cripple their access to influence peddlers.

Divide and conquer. Something good should come out of this sham of an emergency.

Maybe my post gave you the wrong impression. My wife and I have been frequent visitors to the Kirkland Life Care Center for years which was the epicenter of this situation in Washington. My wife is a retired nurse and I am a retired firefighter who spent 25 years transporting sick people with breathing problems to the hospital. I was criticized weeks ago for warning people that this was a serious issue.

But the over reaction that has now taken place is absolutely insane. It is political in nature and meant to destroy the economy. The H1N1 flu pandemic in 2009 had similar potential but was down played for political reasons.

If the big corny-virus can get Ted, we’re all dead.

That picture might just be the reason Cruz grew that beard.

I think Cruz is just kickin back smokin a joint, he always looks pretty laid back to me.

Gettin stoned cooking bacon on a gun barrel.

Tad Cruz!

We gotta love Cruz...cause he’s not Romney.

Since I have a very vivid imagination I could see where democrats will never self- isolate and could bring the whole Hill down. Small price to pay to hurt Trump. Unless of course they die because most are a million years old.

Democrats all the while screeching that every Republican has come in contact with someone who has the virus. Only to find out that none actually had the virus at all.

It was a second person after the initial contact and before he self-quarantined - had to add some days to close the window.

Ted Cruz is giving people a living example of how to care for others in this situation.

This is a noble thing to do.

We could do a lot worse than Ted Cruz.

Exactly. Why is he making a big show out of his self-quarantine??? Sounds a little like virtue signaling. He could have done it quietly and had the same result, but no, let’s add to the hysterical panic. I don’t know how he thinks he’s helping things.

understood, I retract my prior implied comment and apologize!

I remember h1n1 and sars well (both impacted the equities mkt) and worried about both iirc. once I read about the furin cleavage issue (to say nothing of china’s economic amputation reaction) I was convinced this one was very likely to be the real deal in terms of outcome here. timetable has slowed some vs. what I initially expected but it is happening.

No need for any appology. My wife and I have transformed from sounding the alarm before this was being taken seriously, to trying to calm others around us who are now reacting in irrational ways.

In Washington the governor is now shutting down churches, schools, museums and other facilities even in areas where no infections or illnesses have been detected. We are always facing threats from various communicable diseases. With the hype surrounding this one along with questionable statistics based on incomplete information, it is hard to know how much more serious this situation is than other problems the left has been trying to capitalize on.

as you know, the problem is by the time we get enough real data to conclude how serious it is, we are 2 weeks from that data ourselves.

I am using daily italy death tolls’ trend (essentially an organic moving average, a career in technical analysis probably helps make it intuitive). considering much of the country isn’t as bad off as the north yet, my concern is we are going to get 2 multipliers working on them. this ends up being low-4 digits daily death tolls within a couple of weeks.

I don’t believe that at some level but as the count says, ‘nonsense, counting always works.’

I became a big believer in quarantines when I was in Iraq. We did not let sick people come into theater and no one got sick. Think about it, everyone was under stress, working 7 days a week, getting minimal sleep, breathing 200 year old camel dung laden air and everyone was healthy.

I talked to a corpsman about this while I was there and he said he hadn't treated a sick person in weeks, just body damage.
