According to the police report, the man who overdosed was Travis Dyson, a known male escort in the Miami area. A third man, Aldo Mejas, entered the hotel room to find Dyson overdosing and Gillum vomiting.
“Mr. Mejas arrived at the hotel at approximately [11:07pm] where he discovered Travis Dyson and Andrew Gillum inside the hotel room under the influence of an unknown substance. Per Mr. Mejas, Dyson opened the hotel room door and immediately walked over to the bed and collapsed in a prone position,” the report read. “Mr. Mejas observed Mr. Gillum inside of the bathroom vomiting.”
After Dyson overdosed, Mejas called the police. Dyson was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition.
According to the police report, Gillum left the scene and returned home.
“Mr. Gillum left the hotel room and returned to his residence without incident,” the report read.
It is unclear whether any of these men will face charges for the possession of narcotics.
“I was in Miami last night for a wedding celebration when first responders were called to assist one of my friends,” Gillum told an ABC news affiliate. “While I had too much to drink, I want to be clear that I have never used methamphetamines. I apologize to the people of Florida for the distraction this has caused our movement.”
“I’m thankful to the incredible Miami Beach EMS team for their efforts. I will spend the next few weeks with my family and appreciate privacy during this time,” Gillum said.
