Italy on Friday recorded its highest one-day death toll yet from cases of the new coronavirus, according to official data.
There were 250 deaths recorded over the past 24 hours, taking the total to 1,266, with 17,660 infections overall, a rise of 2,547 since Thursday evening.

Italy has socialized medicine, not enough beds..basically if you are over the age of 70 and have pneumonia, they put you in a corner and let you die..that is what the left wants in America
Evidently there are many Chinese workers in some parts of Italy, per recent FR articles. They went to China for their new year, then brought the virus back to Italy.

According to my feeble memory, there are around 800,000 Chinese living in northern Italy working in the textile and leather industry with constant interaction between Italy and China. Before all this happened, the Italian population were very unhappy with all the Chinese living there - now this.
The Chinese are just doing the jobs Italians don't want to do. Like having babies.
Yes, so very sad. Until recently I was not aware so many Chinese lived/worked in Italy. Some articles said the work is fashion/clothing industry related and there is/was regular work-related travel because items are manufactured in China. Whatta mess.
I hope our gov’t makes USA manufacture of all our medications a top priority and they end the insanity of China making any of them.
Once again, we’re not getting the whole story. I read somewhere very early that the virus had a propensity to infect Asians more than any other race.
So, the truth is not being told here.The people dying are Chinese.

northern italy evidently has a ton of chinese who are in the leather/textile industry and the italian ambassador to ireland states they believe it came from china via the textile industry:
