Former Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning will be released from jail after being held for 10 months because testimony she refused to give to a secret grand jury is no longer needed, a federal judge said on Thursday.
Manning's release comes because "the business of (the grand jury) had concluded," Judge Anthony Trenga of the federal court in Alexandria, Virginia, wrote on Thursday. "The Court finds that Ms. Manning's appearance before the Grand Jury is no longer needed, in light of which her detention no longer serves any coercive purpose."
Manning was fined $256,000 in fines for refusing to testify, according to the judge.
She had not been released from jail as of Thursday evening and was still being held in the Alexandria Detention Center, her lawyer, Moira Meltzer-Cohen, told CNN.
"Needless to say we are relieved and ask that you respect her privacy while she gets on her feet," Manning's lawyers said in a statement Thursday.

“It” will not survive outside.
Being himself is its own hell.
While I believe HE should be in jail for the leaking and subsequent courts-martial, I do recognize (but disagree with) the legality of the Obama commutation. if no longer needed for the grand jury the release is appropriate.
I can’t be more disgusted with these self important judges. Little self appointed gods in their own mind.
Too many are political instead of judicial.
The grand jury was dismissed. There was no legal basis to keep him in jail. The judge kept the fines in place which was basically all he could do. Im sure Soros will pay the fine for him.
Whomever advised him to claim womanhood (Coombs?) nailed it.
Otherwise he would be in prison and we would already be forgetting about him.
The fake suicide attempt was designed to blast him back into the news.
Without it this judge may have ruled differently.
