And there's nothing the government can do about it.

Incorrect.

They can do what's been reported, an EO directing all US Government purchasing of medicines to be of domestic origin. It's a power that clearly exists and creates a supply chain that could be used by anyone.

The Feds are dominant players there.

And if those medicines aren't manufactured here? Will the government tell people they have to die? What control does that have over private insurance companies?

We're not supposed to be a socialist country with the government mandating to business what they will make and where. That's Bernie's line.

An executive order would last...what...maybe four years before it is rescinded by a Democrat President? Or a maybe even a Republican?

I’m not sure that the U.S. government actually purchases the highest percentage of medical products - there are probably more regular citizens purchasing. And it sounds to me like the company CEOs made those decisions, anyway, not the consumer. We stand for freedom - so in a sense, who are we to stand in the way of a CEO’s right do make those kinds of decisions? (I believe that regulation is required.)

The best suggestion I’ve seen so far is what President Trump has already done to a large extent - which is tariffs. And he was vilified by some for doing so.
