The ‘refugees’ should not forget, crossing our borders illegally is not something heroic or to be admired.
Crossing our borders illegally remains a crime, regardless of motivation. It is not America’s duty to absorb all the poor and all the desperate from all points of the earth.
That idea was simply a line in a poem. It is not policy, not has it ever been.
Emma’s poem says “give me your wretched refuse” (among other, less pathetic names). Frost’s poem says “good fences make good neighbors.”
