On Wednesday night, a solemn President Trump spoke for less than ten minutes to tell Americans what steps the federal government has taken and will take to address the spread of coronavirus around the world. These steps include stopping all travel from Europe, payroll tax relief, small business loans, and aide for American workers who become sick or must care for someone who is sick.
Although it was not a flowery speech, Trump reminded Americans that health crises are a fact of life. What matters is how one responds. In the face of the panic sweeping America, Trump promised us that, This is not a financial crisis. This is just a temporary moment in time that we will overcome together as a nation and as a world.
After detailing the practical steps he will take, Trump ended by saying that America has tremendous financial resilience, which makes his proposals possible, and incredible human capital. He also urged Americans to put aside partisan differences to provide the most robust response to a temporary, albeit severe, problem.
Within minutes, Democrats and Never Trumpers ignored the Presidents request that the country works together on the problem. Instead, they swung instantly into action, castigating him for doing nothing (even though he acted quickly to restrict travel from China and quarantine travelers) and dreaming of all the horrible things that should happen to Trump and America.
Here are just a few examples of the hysteria and pure hatred that Democrats and NevertTrumpers expressed for Trump and America itself.
The Palmer Report vomited panic, silliness, and hatred:

You act as though Trump mixed up that virus in is garage
I think finger pointing in a crisis is counterproductive.
you're probably hanging out at the wrong website.
If I want the GOP to win in November, maybe I am.
I understand you comments. Trump has approached life from a point of exuding confidence. He will not agonize over every word and nuance in the fashion of seasoned politicians. And I would be lying if I denied that I often have to cringe at some of his comments and his approach.
In times past, a confident manner served FDR well in dark times; but he did not have a pack of opposition party jackals at his heels every minute of everyday. There is, however, for me a saving grace with respect to Trump--he will work his a$$ off to attack this latest crisis and won't be wasting time pouring oily platitudes over emotional members of the public who will always be suckers for crap like "I feel your pain."
Democrats remind us 24/7 that they are anti-American!
ANY vote for ANY Democrat is a vote AGAINST America!
Vote FOR America!
Vote REPUBLICAN!
He wasn’t “poo-pooing” it, or do you believe the media lie that he called the virus itself a hoax and not the clearly political overreaction?
You’re looking for style points on diction, etc? Give me a break.
He did what needed to be done. He announced a restriction of travel to and from a current hotspot, namely Europe, not to make political points but because of the numbers. He reassured on the economy because of the market crash generated by bed-wetters, hype-mongers, and oil price wars - not because he is bragging. He also spoke of economic actions that they will be taking to reassure people who are worried about taxes, sick time, and their investments. All exactly what he should have done.
If you’re worried about him clearing his throat or looking tired or whatever - you’re not thinking this through clearly or are purely a political hack.
Yes, I agree with you.
They need to go to Hell, and soon.
“President Donald Trump on Monday said that the “fake news media and their partner, the Democrat Party, is doing everything to inflame the coronavirus situation.”
It’s hard to go from the above to his address last night (3 days later) and not think he poo pooed it at first. Come on, take off the blinders.
Banning travel
50 billion in SBA loans
Potential Payroll Tax Cut
“We’ll get through this adversity together”
3 days ago he made it sound like there was NO adversity. This is my point. And no, not a hack. Just a realist.
Red phone moment? The DEMS are tying up that line. Look, there have been THIRTY EIGHT DEATHS in the US, THIRTY WHICH CAME OUT OF WASHINGTON STATE, CALIFORNIA AND NEW YORK and that has remained pretty much unchanged. What exactly do TRUMP haters want to hear, first not enough, then too much. Reminds me of Goldilocks.
Utter NONSENSE!
He was trying to calm a panicked (by the media) populous and a panicked market.
The death to FEAR is not from the Corona Virus, its the death of our economy that we should fear.
The Corona Virus is OVERBLOWN, he can’t say that. The Corona Virus is spreading and KILLING PEOPLE, he can’t dwell on that.
“Because you can’t handle the truth!”
If people want to be scared, they should be scared of the FLU not the Corona Virus or any other cause since the number of deaths per year, in the USA, from all causes is, 635,260. Six HUNDRED THOUSAND!
“Perspective”, its a thing. Just like “irrational fear” is a thing.
I saw a statistic once about how a large percentage of people that fall and break a hip only live about two more years.
The conclusion was that breaking a hip lead to an early death.
NOT! It was because most people who fall and break their hip are OLD!
Like Arianna Huffington said “the plane was going there anyway”.
Well these people were “going there anyway”.
The average age of people dying from the Corona Virus is 80. Many of these people were “going there anyway”.
“vicious partisan rancor” is their default since they forgot (if they ever knew) how to do politics
Just watched it. Thought it was perfect. Methinks you are FOS.
OK, Shakespeare.
You just pointed out exactly what I said. Trump said the media and Democrats were doing everything they could to inflame the situation. Which is exactly what they have been doing. He didn’t say the virus was a hoax, he said the usual suspects were inflaming the situation.
The way through situations like this is to stay calm, take prudent precautions, and above all - not lose your sh|t like a bed-wetter or someone who gains something by inciting panic.
I like Elizabethan English...sue me. And you're still FOS.
(1) the numbers aren’t that low. we just aren’t able to test adequately.
(2) the numbers grow exponentially. we are a few weeks behind Italy, and their health care system is on the verge of collapse. The only way we avoid Italy’s fate is if we enact strong public health measures now and shut down large gatherings.
What are you talking about?? I’m saying we aren’t doing enough. Trump closing down travel to China and Iran was exactly the right move and same for Europe. He should be doing _more_ things like that. We need to shut down large social gatherings for the next month or so to slow down the infection rate.
If we don’t, we end up like Italy - good article on it from non-BBC UK TV: https://www.itv.com/news/2020-03-11/italy-doctors-coronavirus-covid-19-quarantine-milan-health/
Trump could cure cancer and they’d still hate on him. Ignore them!
Trolling much?
China's the one that needs to reduce its population by about a quarter billion...
