Democrats respond to Trump's Oval address on Coronavirus with vicious partisan rancor
American Thinker ^ | 03/12/2020 | Andrea Widburg

Posted on 03/12/2020 7:30:47 AM PDT by SeekAndFind

On Wednesday night, a solemn President Trump spoke for less than ten minutes to tell Americans what steps the federal government has taken and will take to address the spread of coronavirus around the world. These steps include stopping all travel from Europe, payroll tax relief, small business loans, and aide for American workers who become sick or must care for someone who is sick.

Although it was not a flowery speech, Trump reminded Americans that health crises are a fact of life. What matters is how one responds. In the face of the panic sweeping America, Trump promised us that, “This is not a financial crisis. This is just a temporary moment in time that we will overcome together as a nation and as a world.”

After detailing the practical steps he will take, Trump ended by saying that America has tremendous financial resilience, which makes his proposals possible, and incredible human capital. He also urged Americans to put aside partisan differences to provide the most robust response to a temporary, albeit severe, problem.

Within minutes, Democrats and Never Trumpers ignored the President’s request that the country works together on the problem. Instead, they swung instantly into action, castigating him for doing nothing (even though he acted quickly to restrict travel from China and quarantine travelers) and dreaming of all the horrible things that should happen to Trump and America.

Here are just a few examples of the hysteria and pure hatred that Democrats and NevertTrumpers expressed for Trump and America itself.

The Palmer Report vomited panic, silliness, and hatred:

“This is his “red telephone” moment. If he can’t can’t start doing better he will not be re-elected.”

I suggested, early on, that he should have put Chuck Schumer in charge of this..but he when with Pence instead.

What can anyone do? There are limits to what government to do in crises. My prediction is that this thing will be a whole less than feared and when people look at the fear mongering of the Dems and the press - done to sink Trump, not out of any real concern - there will be some real anger.

I’ve noticed that the leftists who are angrily spreading fear are criticizing the president for not calming their fears.

I’m with you. It was delivered terribly.

People here are just as incapable of being objective about him as the left are in the opposite sense.

He was speaking way too fast and frankly, I thought he needed to clear his throat or cough the entire time, which needless to say, would not have been a good optic.

It wasn’t the time to tout the economy or blame the virus on China. We all know where it came from. That - once again - makes him look juvenile and petty. That should have been nothing be reassurance and planning. It shouldn’t have been a quasi stump speech.

I don’t need to be comforted by any President, but if that’s what people were looking for, they got none of it. And by seeming, I don’t know, indifferent? to the whole issue, he makes it easy for the left to attack him.

I watched a different address than the one you saw. But then again you and pp saw what you wanted to see. This event is unprecedented in the history of this nation. What did you want.? As always the people of the United States of America will be the ones to get the country through this despite what the politicians do.

Obviously.
Other than telling people to avoid closed or confined spaces..wash hands ..etc ect..that’s about all that can be done.
Anything else is scare mongering.

Otherwise, unfortunately, we have slobs who won’t wash their hands even after they use the toilet.
No appeal to those idiots is going to change their bad habits.
Not to mention the tens of millions of illegal occupiers, who could care less if some gringos die, who have not been tested for ordinary virus let alone deadly viruses or ebola or TB.

The CD is operating fine. The virus started in China, and after he closed China to the US, Democrats called him xenophobic. Now we see it was the right move. Europe, acting like Iran, sees no problems and now Europe is exploding with the virus. Close Europe to the US saves US Lives. It’s almost as if the Democrats want millions dead in the US, just so they can blame Trump. When Trump tries to protect the US, Dems like you come unglued.

You need to learn to be focused and consistent because right now you aren’t. you are a danger to the American people

What should he have said?

He sounded tentative, which coming from Trump is unnerving. The xenophobic remark about the "foreign virus" was not helpful. I mean if it's here it isn't foreign. The finger pointing at Europe was lame. He looked desperate to score points.

The President is in a no-win situation. Too cautious, causes panic and the Dow tanks. Not cautious enough, he’s viewed as heartless and any increase in the body count is blood on his hands.

He made it easy for them. That speech was a complete debacle.

I heard whiny Major Garrett say the same thing on CBS This Morning. My response to you both, The President is not your mommy, grow up and take some personal responsibility. Now go wash your hands.

The xenophobic remark about the "foreign virus" was not helpful.
If you think truth-telling is "xenophobic" you're probably hanging out at the wrong website.

Almost from the beginning, the Chicoms have been trying to blame this "disease" on the United States. POTUS was speaking to an audience beyond our borders when he said that.

As long as I am still alive, Trump gets my vote.

If Biden wins, I’ll move to Italy.

Look, it wasn’t awful. All I’m saying is that it wasn’t his best moment either.

And since a week ago he practically poo-pooed it and now all of a sudden he’s on TV closing air travel, it’s a pretty stark turn around. A little humility would have been good too.

Empathy also helps a re-election.
