The US women's football team is less skilled and has fewer responsibilities than their male colleagues, according to US Soccer.
Lawyers for the football governing body in the US have submitted the claims in legal papers as part of a lawsuit over equal pay filed by 28 women's national team players - the court trial is expected to start on 5 May.
It stated that the job of a male footballer on the national team "requires a higher level of skill based on speed and strength" than their female counterparts.
While the men's national team has never won a relevant international title, the women's side are four-time world champions and have won five Olympic gold medals.
American women footballers also outdid men in terms of revenue in the last few years: it has emerged that the women's team generated more money from ticket sales than the men's side between 2016 and 2018.
However, the male athletes serving the national team are disproportionally paid more, according to lawyers representing the group of female players.

That is the wrong argument to make. They should be pointing out the men’s game brings in more money than the women’s. I believe the women actually make a bigger percent of the revenue than the men.
how about they make the teams co-ed and let the b*tches compete with the boys ..
Article is pure bs! Ticket sales are a tiny fraction of the revenue generated by the different Leagues. Endorsements and TV revenue are the main contributors and in that the men VASTLY out earn the women.
That aside the women are actually OVERPAID based on the % of the revenue they receive vs what they actually generate.

Easy to settle (and probably get good TV ratings). Have the men’s team play against the women’s team.
And also expect that as soon as they up the salaries. That pretty soon it will be all trans people on the women’s teams.
Yep. The mens team generate more income. That should be the end of it. Of course they could always have a friendly match and once the men beat the woman 20 - 0 or so maybe the skill thing would be valid.
That is the real solution and the women will never agree to it. They want the money and the praise and the adulation without the physical effort.
Kind of like a lot of women in the military who get promotion points at the same level as the men but will never pass the same PT test.
Lots of cherry picking going on with the statistics. The Women's National Team is popular. Professional Women's teams, not so much. The MLS team in Kansas City has their own stadium that is always packed. The women's professional team plays on a city owned field in a bad part of town and have trouble drawing a crowd.
The article says that women’s soccer has brought in more revenue than men’s soccer in the last few years. IF true then they should get paid commensurate with the revenue they bring in. It still might not be as much as the men, because men’s soccer worldwide has more viewers than woman’s soccer and therefore the rights to watching men’s soccer is going to bring in more revenue.
It is a free market. Go play some where else.

Perhaps it should be based on league income.If men’s “football” brings in more than women’s then the men should make more.
Sounds like picking the facts to suit your argument. What about TV revenue, sponsorships, concessions, team memorabilia and gear?

Skills and responsibilities IMO aren’t the issue. What is the market demand? Who pays to see them—live or on TV?
Nope. Relative skill doesn’t matter. Who draws the money in does. 98/100 times in sports it’s the men and so they should make more money. If in the other 2/100 times it is the ladies, then the ladies should make more money.
And they have such different physical attributes that comparing skills doesn’t really make sense.
They should be paid the same, then after the season, have a one game playoff, and winner takes the extra as bonus. Let skill determine the payday instead of lawyer. #Equality
