College Professor Who Had Swine Flu Notes Key Difference in Democrat-Media Complex's Hysteria Over Wuhan Virus
Townhall.com ^ | March 11, 2020 | Matt Vespa

Professor William Jacobson teaches at Cornell Law School. He runs the Legal Insurrection blog. It’s one of the many conservatives read daily. Among their many stories, these guys were the ones who filed a FOIA request about then-Meet the Press host David Gregory breaking the law by holding a so-called high-capacity magazine, which is illegal to own in Washington D.C., on live TV. The DC police actually wanted to arrest Gregory, but the D.C. attorney general blocked it because, for lack of a better term, David was a good guy. Yeah, two separate rules at play then as it’s played elsewhere when a Democrat breaks the rules to attack Republicans.

Yet, with Wuhan Virus being declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization, the panic will increase. It’s ridiculous. Is Wuhan serious? Yes. It’s not the Spanish flu. It’s not even Swine Flu. Prof. Jacobson knows something about the latter; he was infected and survived. And he noted that the liberal media was just as horrific in their coverage then as they are now. They blamed the GOP, just like they do now with Trump and WuFlu. Jacobson noted that the only difference between the 2009 and 2020 coverage is that this is an election year now. And the liberal media is doing the best it can to make this into Trump’s (via Legal Insurrection):

There was a sense of panic with the Swine Flu, but nowhere near the hysteria we are seeing now regarding Wuhan Coronavirus, certainly not at this early stage.

But I do remember that then, as now, Democrats and the media tried to blame Republicans, specifically spreading false claims that Republicans had prevented funding pandemic preparations (sound familiar?). I wrote the prior April 2009, when Swine Flu first emerged, how the media was misrepresenting the preparedness, The Truth Is The First Victim Of Swine Flu.

There is a big difference between then and now. It was not an election year. Obama was in his first year of his first term. Trump is in the fourth year of his first term, so the Wuhan Coronavirus media frenzy combines real panic with hyperventilated anti-Trump news coverage.

Two things are true at the same time: Wuhan Coronavirus should be taken seriously as a public health danger, and Democrats and the media are trying to weaponize it for election purposes. They want this so badly to be Trump’s Katrina or Chernobyl.

We’re nowhere near that with the WuFlu. Take precautions of course. Maybe you need to skip church, a school dance, or an athletic event. It’s not the end of the world. Keep washing your hands and take all the other precautions outlined by health officials that help you from getting sick. You know, the stuff you were taught in elementary school. The sick thing is the liberal media has found something that can hurt Trump—and they’re gleefully using it to destroy people’s lives via market disruption in order to get that done. And these folks whine when we call them what they rightfully are: an enemy to the people.

Dr Fouci testified today that the swine flu was weaker than the seasonal flu. And that this Coronavirus is 10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu.

Dr. Fouci today

About this time last year, I got the damn Norovirus. Kicked my ass, but I'm still here. There were a lot of stories about cruise ships with Norovirus at the time.

They closed a couple of schools here, because not only the kids, but the teachers, were all sick.

Per SecretAgent Man
That 1% fatality is 1% of people who actually get infected, not 1% of the entire country population.

Further, like the flu, that 1% is not spread out evenly across everyone who gets infected. Certain demographics are going to be much higher and others much lower.

Third thing is what strain you get. they know of AT LEAST two different ones, and one is mild and one is more severe and has the lung/pneumonia issue that comes up easier.

Much of this can be prevented and risk reduced just by increasing handwashing, santizing phones and surfaces you touch, and not being in large groupings any more than you absolutely need to be. Which is what a lot of people do in the winter, anyway, just because it’s winter.

And if you don’t have kids at home that is a huge disease vector you don’t have to worry about. Otherwise you should be practicing more sanitary processes all the time not just when its flu season or the wintertime.

“Dr Fouci testified today that the swine flu was weaker than the seasonal flu.”

Yeah, I remember when Swine Flu was a big deal when it came around in the 70s. Didn’t turn out to be much, the vaccines for it were another thing.

My dad had the Flu in February 1975. He was in the hospital in my hometown in Germany. He passed away on February 5 1975, but not from the Flu. He bled to death.

He called the Nurses station because the had to use the bathroom, but no one came. So he tore the IV out of his arm. They found him in the morning on the bathroom floor bled to death. H

Nope, decades before then.

You are lying of course. We all are going to die and there will be just one outpost somewhere just waiting for their own end. Just like “On the Beach”. /s

We have reached a tipping point though. Real and difficult economic damage has now begun. I hope it does not last too long of course.

you are correct, because we were stationed at Fort Riley KS for over 5 years from 1972 to 1977. There was a report several years later about the swine flu. I don’t remember the exact year, but I found it ridiculous.

When Dr. Fouci was with the POTUS, and all of the world was watching the press conference, he didn’t say ANY OF THIS. I think he’s out of his F’ing mind.

I have been saying this for a week. The media knew that Trump was unbeatable with their incredibly weak roster of democrat candidates and the astounding strength of the Trump economy. They seized the only thing at hand, a new strain of flu-like virus and fabricated a crisis. In concert with their democrat Wall Street allies (who were probably building incredibly large short positions in the market) spread the panic, sending the market into a tailspin, and jeopardizing the retirement programs (IRAs, 401(k)s) of many of their own disciples along with the rest of us. All to get at Trump.

Folks, as of today 34 Americans (mostly 80+ year old residents of a Washington nursing home) have died. 34 out of over 330,000,000 Americans! If you don't want to calculate the percentage on your own it works out to be less than 0.00000010%! Yeah, more people have died around the world than in the U.S. But the overall effect is still a minuscule number.

Chernobyl?

Yeah, the Russian dictator was voted out of office.

“I don’t remember the exact year, but I found it ridiculous.”

It was 1976 - people were as worried about the vaccine as they were the Swine Flu, because of side effects. I got the shot, but there were a lot of conflicted people at the clinic who were terrified of possible complications.

Quite a year - bicentennial, election, legionnaire’s disease, swine flu...good year, all in all, tho.

I am not panicking, I just don’t go anywhere, as I don’t have any reason to, besides my son takes me twice a month to Fort Campbell to the Commissary for grocery shopping.

Who knows maybe the nursing home helped along. They are known to do this when they need a bed.

He’s not.
You heard what you wanted to hear.
And I think he did downplay it some.

If you had been analyzing the stats on Worldometers. You would have already known this. I’ve been saying it’s at least 10 times worst than the flu for weeks now. It’s just not as widespread, but that’s changing.

[That 1% fatality is 1% of people who actually get infected, not 1% of the entire country population.]

Like the common cold, the flu is endemic - it’s always with us. Another way of putting this is that the entire population has been exposed to both the common cold and the flu virus complexes. Whereas the Wuhan flu is brand new and hasn’t had the chance to touch the entire population. It’s merely grazed Italy, and they’ve recorded 200 deaths a day.

Let’s say maybe hundreds of thousands of people in Italy have been exposed to covid-19 with most not being seriously affected by it. When all 60m of Italy’s population are exposed to it, the total number of Italian dead might amount to over 100,000. The question is what the ongoing death toll will be if the virus turns endemic just like the cold. And not all of these things become endemic. SARS isn’t and the swine flu wasn’t.
