It’s hard to believe that Sessions has a snowball’s chance in hell of getting elected to anything.

Although not an Alabamian, I’ve always liked Sessions too. I regarded him as the most honorable man of the Senate.

An honorable solon of the Senate is to be admired, but when you become part of an administration you work for a team. Sessions chose virtue over vocation. His job was to protect the president he chose to work for unless evidence proved the president’s malfeasance. Instead of being a wing-man he fled. Sometimes you have to get smudged up a bit.

Strangely, I think I would still vote for Sessions for senator. There were a lot of factors that led to the Mueller investigation.

Trump did himself no favors by firing Flynn. With Flynn on board Trump would have had a valuable ally infiltrating the corrupt Obama intelligence services despite Session’s recusal.

What “coup” are you talking about? By the time Mueller came on the scene all those other key players from the Obama administration were either gone, or exposed.

Sessions didn’t “roll over and play dead.” He recused himself — which is exactly what he said he would do during his confirmation hearing. Why do you overlook that?

[......it makes me sad to see you and others dishonor his name and service.”

I do not dishonor him sir, Mr. Sessions has dishonored himself.

I was once a fan and avid supporter of his, just like you, for many many years. His Mr. Magoo antics while serving as Attorney General are not forgivable transgressions.

Mr. Sessions allowed corrupt investigations to proceed, and failed to investigate glaring criminality; see Clinton, Strzok, Page, Comey, Rosenstien, McCabe, Brennan, Biden(s), Priestap, Ohr(s), Clapper, and on and on and on.

Dishonor indeed!

If Jeffy wins his mission in life will be to make Trump’s life a living hell. He’ll be worse than Mitt even.

You can’t let that happen Alabama.

Rosenstein didn’t appoint Mueller until more than two months after Sessions recused himself. People here seem to forget what triggered that appointment.

Rosenstein and Sessions were both involved in firing James Comey in May 2017, and their letter/memorandum were released to the public when Comey was fired. They explicitly stated that Comey was fired for his mishandling of the Hillary Clinton investigation in 2016. Within days of Comey’s firing, President Trump did an interview with Lester Holt of NBC where he said he fired Comey over the Russia investigation.

That baffling display of idiocy put Rosenstein in a conflicted position where he appeared to be complicit in firing Comey under false pretenses. THIS was what precipitated the appointment of Mueller.

For the life of me, I will never understand why Donald Trump would have spent even 10 seconds of his time doing an interview with a media outlet that he had been rightly criticizing as “fake news” for months before that.

I disagree with you on that last point. Trump did himself no favors by HIRING Flynn in the first place. In retrospect, Flynn was a very compromised man who brought a lot of his troubles on himself — and undermines Trump in the process. To be frank, the guy gives me the impression that he’s not terribly bright.

What “coup” are you talking about? By the time Mueller came on the scene all those other key players from the Obama administration were either gone, or exposed.

The coup I'm talking about is the plot to overthrow the President by any means necessary, the one planned and executed by Clinton, Rosenstein, Mueller, Clapper, Brennan, Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, et al. You're right to say they were all either gone or exposed but some of us - and I among them - hold that they should've been penalized. Do you realize that Clapper then came out and admitted that he had lied to Congress? Do you think you would've been walking around free had you done that? Comey has also been found to have been 'lacking candor' on that occasion. If it all sits well with you, I envy you. It doesn't sit well with me.

Sessions recused himself so early on, that as I already said, he could then do nothing when Rosenstein put the Special Investigation ball into play. I don't overlook that. On the contary, I fault him for it. That is precisely what it means to roll over and play dead. He has a hell of nerve now asking the people of Alabama to trust him. I say now is just the right time for him to again roll over and play dead. He has unparalleled skills in that sport.
