Passengers on Cruise Ships
U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship. CDC notes increased risk of infection of COVID-19 in a cruise ship environment. In order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented strict screening procedures that have denied port entry rights to ships and prevented passengers from disembarking. In some cases, local authorities have permitted disembarkation but subjected passengers to local quarantine procedures. While the U.S. government has evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks, repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local authorities.
This is a fluid situation. CDC notes that older adults and travelers with underlying health issues should avoid situations that put them at increased risk for more severe disease. This entails avoiding crowded places, avoiding non-essential travel such as long plane trips, and especially avoiding embarking on cruise ships.

This is the problem, for whatever reason people in this country need Mommy and Daddy Govt to TELL them to not go on cruise ships..just like they need the Govt to tell them “If you dont feel good, stay home” really, you need to be TOLD that seriously!
About time. Idiotic that it took THREE quarantined cruise ships before someone figure out that this was a bad idea.
Should just warn people: “We’re sick of tons of people crowding on floating petri dishes then demanding we solve their problem. We reserve the right to just torpedo it and be done with it.”
Personally for me, traveling on a floating petri dish just seems like a bad idea at anytime.
Personally I find an official warning helpful. I figure it is something clarifying whether I could be concerned, or whether I Should be concerned.
Cruise ships are Petri Dishes.
There isn’t enough money to get me on one. Ever.
I got to do it once and having ten days where someone else cooked, cleaned, and did my laundry while I sat around the hot tub was HEAVEN!!!
Well the way it is and will be reported is “The State Department is recommending against traveling by cruise ship”.
Rats in the State Department probably did and they knew it could wreck the industry maybe even cause bankruptcy.

Well then you have not done it. It is a fantastic way to travel.

I have family and friends with grandchildren. Frankly, visiting with the kids results in illness about 90% of the time. (BTW, they never get sick on cruises.)
American passengers should remember they are on a foreign flagged ship, and possibly in the jurisdiction of another foreign country.
Playing the "but I am an American card", may not work out too well, if two different countries are involved. - Tom
And thats really tepid. What they should say is, If you are on a cruise and get sick with the virus, you will not be allowed on American soil until you are quarantined for 21 days off shore and declared free of infection.
We are not responsible for irresponsible people who have been warned.
It wasn’t the liberals that created this headline, it was the original poster. So it appears that we have some on FR that are worse then “Rats in the State Department”.
If I want to look at the ocean I will take a walk on a pier or sit on a beach under an umbrella. No cattle boats for me.
One of my managers told me 3 days ago that he doesn’t care what is going on he paid for it and he’s going in 2 weeks and he’s gonna have fun!
I was like...cool man.
hope he booked a balcony room..
In the meantime sell your cruise line stocks YESTERDAY.
Then again i’m thinking i might be able to score a seriously good deal on a cruise out of Boston Harbor this coming fall...

You wouldn’t think so, but commenters on here yesterday said they were planning to do exactly that.
Yep. Getting ready to schedule two more for this year. Also, I’m not a pussy.
