The Stanford [University] Health Care Clinical Virology Laboratory has launched a diagnostic test developed for the virus that causes COVID-19.
The test is being used for patients at Stanford Health Care and Stanford Childrens Health suspected of being infected with the respiratory virus SARS-CoV-2...It is expected to deliver results within 12-24 hours.
As with all currently available tests, its not yet clear how long a person needs to be infected before testing positive, or whether someone who's infected could be identified by the test before displaying symptoms.
Clinical virologist Benjamin Pinsky, MD, PhD, associate professor of pathology and of infectious diseases at the Stanford School of Medicine, and his team in the clinical virology lab began working on the test in late January. They spent February validating and confirming that the test meets the requirements to be a useful clinical tool.
The test successfully identified the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in positive samples without cross-reacting with the seasonal coronaviruses or other common respiratory viruses, including influenza, Pinsky said.

Until the announcement, samples from throat and nasal swabs of possibly infected people were sent to public health agencies for testing with an assay developed and distributed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention through an emergency use authorization from the FDA.

You gotta love this guy! : )

And, ON A BROADER NATIONAL FRONT, LabCorp and Quest Diagnostics have rolled out their tests.

Remember, if you build it, they will come. Arent free enterprise and unshackled private industry great! EAT YOUR HEART OUT, ROD ROSENSTEINS SISTER.
The CDC kit produces results within four hours.

Stanford: "The Stanford test uses a technique called reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction, or RT-PCR, to rapidly identify the presence of viral RNA in swabs from the noses of potentially infected people."
CDC: "The test kit, called the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) 2019-Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCov) Real-Time Reverse Transcriptase (RT)-PCR Diagnostic Panel (CDC 2019-nCoV Real Time RT-PCR), is designed for use with an existing RT-PCR testing instrument that is commonly used to test for seasonal influenza."
yeah, the FDA reg-relaxation regarding CMS and insurance reimbursement of privately developed COVID-19 testing instituted by pence’s task force is a REALLY big deal ...
Quest and LabCorp, the two giants in the U.S. med testing field have done what Stanford did: LabCorp has been able to test for COVID-19 since last Thursday (3/5/2020) and Quest will have theirs ready tomorrow (3/9/2020), so all this putative “shortage” of tests being promoted by the fake stream enemedia and the doom and FR gloomers who keep trying to incite panic on FR are full of shite!

The msm hasnt but other news sources have....
Have not heard it.. thanks for posting. Now everyone who looks sick will ask for this. PCR tests are very expensive this has been an example on how regulations slow down everything. Roll back CLIA88 its not saving lives.
So 4 hrs vs 12-24 hrs for test results.
But are both accurate to the same degree?
I don't know.
