The Democrat establishment could care less about whether Joe Biden is elected POTUS or not....they want to protect the establishment and themselves. Your vote cast for Biden will be a vote for Hilary Clinton.
Biden will be replaced before the election with Hillary Clinton running for POTUS and, Michelle Obama running for VPOTUS. Biden is just a abused tool for the moment.

What may prove deadly with Biden is who he chooses as his Veep. With the right Veep candidate, the Dem electorate will see Biden only as a place holder for their real "stealth" candidate.
That is clearly the position Mayor Pete was (and still is) aiming for when he decided to withdraw.
