Not a free market?

Tell us more. Include your plans to become an insulin supplier.

Drug companies have been ripping off the American people for years. Time for them to be held accountable.

“Liability and lawsuit lotto. Pet insulin costs less because if someone does something stupid with pet insulin, the amount they can sue for is relatively limited. Not so with human insulin.”

BS

They jack up the prices because private health insurance, Medicare and Medicaid is paying for it.

Same as when my wife send blood work to the local hospital. They charge her around $115 or so. But humans $400-500. Same 4 page workup. 100% same test.

Unfortunately most drugs are now coming from China. How do you intend to hold the Chinese accountable?

They sure do. Soon there will be no insulin available.

"Why can she buy a bottle of Epi for $28 that has enough dosage to fill 30 Epi pens at $600 each"

Senator Joe Manchin's daughter became the head of the company that manufactures the epipen in 2016 and promptly quadrupled or quintupled the price. This was of course to rip off the Medicaid system that purchases most of them.

Let's see; 2016, when the affirmative action buffoon was still in office and the price gouging courtesy of a Democrat. The Democrats are for the 'little people', right?

“these rip off drug companies”

Everyone is against price gouging that occurs during, say, destructive weather. People become desperate for items essential to their lives.

This price gouging is the free market in operation.

When people need something because their life is at stake and the suppliers charge prices way above their manufacturing costs, and the suppliers either eliminate competitors or collude with them, no way is that a good thing.

Drug price gouging should be treated exactly like the gouging that occurs during emergencies.

“Unfortunately most drugs are now coming from China. How do you intend to hold the Chinese accountable?”

Why are those drugs a 1/4 of the cost in other countries around the world of what US citizens are paying?

It’s because the drug companies have the politicians by their wallet and the US politicians allow the drug companies to set the price.

Trump knows what is going on and is trying to fight it but the R & D’s both are fighting him on it.

Human anything has higher liability risks associated with it and that has to be taken into account when pricing a good.

Hospital prices are so high in part because the paying customers are subsidizing all the illegals and other people that use the ER or hospital services without paying. Decades back, Feds mandated that hospitals must treat all ER patients without regard for ability to pay. I’m sure there’s often grift on top of that, but even where it isn’t, prices are that high because each person who pays may be paying for tens to hundreds more people. And the Feds won’t reimburse.

Republicans held both House and Senate in 2016. The Republicans are just as bad when it comes to healthcare-they are in the pocket of the drug companies.

The means of production is most likely in China.

Immediately put a price cap on salaries of Virginia legislators. The cuts can be arbitrary, but make them substantial.

“Conservatives need to stop siding with these rip off drug companies under the guise of free market.
It’s not a free market.”

+1

If the Republicans don’t do something about these outrages soon, the Democrats will gladly do it for them.

I’m perfectly willing to accept liability limitations IN RETURN FOR LOWER PRICES. Only God can guarantee a particular outcome in life.

On point #2, some aspects of Obamacare were good in concept but never funded or enforced. There are a lot of people who are kiting the system including people who can pay.

Most companies will send you a coupon that results in you paying $5 to $15 if you have commercial insurance and aren’t using Medicaid, Medicare or other government programs. Watch that disappear in Virginia.

My wife is a veterinarian. Why is the pet insulin (100% exact same as human insulin) $25 when the same amount human insulin is $300? (not sure of exact prices but that is the price difference) Why can she buy a bottle of Epi for $28 that has enough dosage to fill 30 Epi pens at $600 each

When your wife (the vet) accidentally kills someones dog with the pet insulin, they are out a dog. When a doctor accidentally kills a human patient, it's a different story. That malpractice insurance and F&D approval is expensive.

“You would fit much better at SandersforPresident.com”

Is that the best you have?

You have no problem with a two pack of Epi pens going from $50 to $675 overnight? Did you not read my wife can buy a bottle of Epiphenrdren for $28 enough to fill 30 Epi pens?

Price gouging pure and simple. As another mentioned Medicaid was paying for it so who cares right?

>>> It’s not a free market <<<

I can’t speak to your examples, but the global pharmaceutical market is not an open market. Nations with socialized medicine fix drug costs. Canada, for example, will only pay $X for a given drug. Pharmaceutical companies balance their places by raising prices in the US and other markets much like hotels and airlines charge widely variable prices for the identical room or seat.

Not saying this is a good thing - it’s just reality. My preference is a truly open market with fair/profitable pricing.
