Apparently it has been a known problem, in that SARS and MERS, have come from bat populations. Moreover, back in 2015, after MERS had come and gone, scientists knew full well that there were several dangerous bat coronaviruses circulating in bat populations. Too bad they didn't start a race towards a vaccine/treatment back when the problem was identified. See here:

There has been research that says the virus didn’t come from the Wet market in Wuhan, just passed through it.

There is also evidence that this came out of the biolab in Wuhan.

I’m sure the truth will be exposed at some point. Whether anybody believes it or acts on it is another question.
