A senior researcher involved in efforts to contain the coronavirus epidemic is predicting there may be no more new cases in mainland China, except for the Hubei province epicentre, by mid-March, but the death of a patient after being discharged from hospital has added a worrying new aspect to the spread of Covid-19.
The mixed news comes as the epidemic continues to spread around the world at an alarming pace, with global infections outnumbering those in mainland China and European countries reporting sharp spikes.
Zhang Boli, one of 14 members on a research team working to control the epidemic, had an optimistic outlook, as new infections in mainland China continued to decline on Thursday.
We have analysed the infections trend. So far, the daily infections in places other than Hubei have almost gone down to zero since late February, Zhang told the official Peoples Daily.
Zhang, who is also director of the Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, said people in other parts of China might be able to remove their masks in April, but that did not mean the coronavirus would be completely gone and there could still be cases, including among people arriving from overseas.
Chinas National Health Commission reported 139 new cases on Thursday, up from 119 a day earlier, and 31 new deaths. Of the new infections, 134 were in Hubei, and 131 in Wuhan.

DETAILS OF THE CORONAVIRUS RELAPSE CASE:
Li Liangs death certificate issued by the Wuhan health commission said the direct cause was Covid-19, and listed respiratory blockage and failure as the symptoms which could have led to his death.
He was admitted to the Hanyang Fangcang Hospital one of 16 makeshift facilities built to treat patients with mild symptoms with fever in early February. Li was discharged on February 26, with the hospital saying his temperature was normal for three days and two nucleic acid tests were negative, though a CAT scan three days earlier still showed signs of pneumonia, Caixin reported.
Li was told to stay in quarantine at a hotel for 14 days after he left hospital, but on March 2 he told his wife he felt ill and he was taken to a hospital where he was certified dead that afternoon.
Spring is around the corner! Bad news is, look for an uptick in cases in the southern hemisphere by winter.

Well, I know that makes me feel better.../s
.
Septic shock likely cause of death.
Perhaps a more accurate title would be:Bring Out Your DeadChina
mayWILL have no REPORTED new Coronavirus cases outside Hubei epicentre by mid-March OR ELSE!; But death of patient after he was discharged from hospital raises concern

Post to me or FReep mail to be on/off the Bring Out Your Dead ping list.
The purpose of the Bring Out Your Dead ping list (formerly the Ebola ping list) is very early warning of emerging pandemics, as such it has a high false positive rate.
So far the false positive rate is 100%.
At some point we may well have a high mortality pandemic, and likely as not the Bring Out Your Dead threads will miss the beginning entirely.
*sigh* Such is life, and death...
If a quarantine saves just one child's life, it's worth it.

It wasnt the disease that killed him. In patients like this you have to look for things beside the coronavirus.
Just because they survived it, doesnt mean theyre in the clear.
Enough with ths post already.
would be interesting to know the details. A secondary pneumonia can develop after a viral illness. Staph pneumonia is nasty and a well recognized complication post influenza
Doctors dont know everything. Theyre just as much in the dark as we are.
Well, sure since theyve probably all been infected by then.
Probably easier just to blame the Coronavirus than a medical miscue or overlooked secondary medical problem.
In this day and age, no magic bullet exists to fighting disease.

2. I don’t believe one word of “official” CCP propaganda.
RE: SCMP is CCP propaganda organ for Western consumption.
Even if it actually publishes opinion pieces critical to the CCP?
See here for instance:
When China allows foreign experts into the country to evaluate the situation comprehensively then and only then will data become believable.
Just think how wed feel if he was only suspected dead.
Certified dead is a whole different kettle of fish.
