After Super Tuesday rush, will there be a Biden hangover?
Washington Examiner ^ | March 4, 2020 | Byron York

Democrats can complain that their presidential race has come down to a 77 year-old white man, Joe Biden, against a 78 year-old white man, Bernie Sanders. But that is what has happened. Now, after the departure of Michael Bloomberg Wednesday morning, what is needed is for the last remaining also-ran -- Elizabeth Warren -- to quit the race. A simple, clarified Biden-Bernie contest is the only way to settle the fundamental conflict that has plagued Democrats through the last two presidential nominating cycles.

Democrats once crowed about having the "most diverse field" in presidential history. There were African Americans — Kamala Harris and Cory Booker; women — Harris, Warren, Amy Klobuchar, Kirsten Gillibrand, Tulsi Gabbard; Latino — Julian Castro; gay — Pete Buttigieg; white men — Beto O'Rourke, Tim Ryan, Bill de Blasio; and elderly white men — Biden, Sanders, and, later, Bloomberg.

Now, it is down to Biden and Sanders. The party's rush to Biden on Super Tuesday was so swift it almost invites rethinking in the days to come. In short: Will there be a Biden hangover?

Yes, Biden was the front-runner in the national Democratic race from the moment he declared until early February; Democratic voters are familiar with his name atop the leader board. But because of the peculiar circumstances of 2019, Biden has not been subjected to the withering, extended scrutiny that being a presidential front-runner can bring. During the impeachment of President Trump, some press accounts seemed to spend more time defending Biden against Republican attacks than delving into his positions or his long public life.

Then, when Biden crashed after terrible performances in Iowa, New Hampshire, and Nevada, the scrutiny machine shut off. That was certainly not a surprise; the political world mostly left Biden for dead.

If the republicans would have voted for Bernie in South Carolina, we’d be better off. 4 percent was not near enough. I can’t stand Biden. I can’t stand Bernie either but our chances of keeping the senate and taking the house was a massive possibility. Now who knows.

I think it is more of a Sander’s hangover.

Biden is the cold, hard reality.

I think Biden is on deck. If he’s polling ahead at the convention, the nomination is all his. If he’s behind because of gaffes or that Trump destroyed him too quickly, the Establishment can use a contested convention to bring in Michelle or whomever they want, expecting that Bernie’s people have nowhere to go.

Cenk and the Young Turks have declared war on the Democrat establishment. I think they mean it.

expecting that Bernie’s people have nowhere to go.

I think that in their heart of hearts both the Biden and Bernie camps know that they are not gonna beat Trump. Hence this election becomes a battle for control of the future of the Democrat Party.

Bernie's time on this earth is running short. It is inconceivable that he'll run again in 2024. Hence his chance to leave his mark on history is to run this Fall as an Independent and take down the Dem Establishment in the name of socialism once and for all. The New Left is sick and tired of getting SCROOOOOOOOOD by the Dem Establishment and I for one think they re going to do this.

Good for our side in 2020 as it ices a Trump victory. Not so good in about a decade when all demographic factors will lean in favor of a more radicalized Dem party.

The next Democrat debate is scheduled for March 15th. If it is just Bernie and Biden, the chances for an on stage meltdown by Biden are pretty high. Will the DNC insist that Elizabeth Warren stay in the race just so she can be in the debate? That way, she can interference by attacking Bernie the same way she went after Michael Bloomberg. The following day, the media can focus on the Warren- Sanders clash, rather than yet another muddled performance by Joe Biden.

Bernie running independent would be bad for Trump, because the people showing up to vote for Bernie will likely vote Dem for the rest of the ballot.

Better that the Bernie-bots stay home in disgust, and show the Dems what happens then.

“Biden is the cold hard reality”

Biden is the Democrats’ Manchurian Candidate to do their every bidding.
But can he make it to the finish line?

Who will the Democrats force him to choose for a running mate?

And will the Democrats go “25th Amendment” on ole Joe even before the election?
Too feebleminded to make it to that finish line.
The Democrats have Joe and this country right where it wants it.

Thank God for Donald J. Trump.

That clip of Cenk stroking out on primary day was frightening. Every soccer mom in America needs to see it.

Cenk is a blithering idiot whose influence is virtually nonexistent. He can bleat all he wants, but hardly anyone is listening. He's trying to make himself consequential, but he's an insignificant nobody.

His faction gave you AOC and the squad.

You are being a little harsh on Cenk. Although unintentional on his part, he is pure comedy gold.

I still enjoy watching the Young Turks meltdown on Election Night 2016.

Bernie is not a fighter. He spouts revolutionary shtick on the campaign stump, but he has never shown any grit beyond waving his hands around vigorously.

He showed this in 2016 when HRC and the DNC cheated him at every turn.

The diehard supporters of Bernie will fight, but their champion has a glass jaw and folds like a cheap tent in a stiff breeze.

The majority of his supporters will be deflated when the convention rolls around and many will sit out the election in November (just as they did in 2016).

If Bernie runs as a third party the democrats and media will destroy him just as they have in the last week to propel Biden forward. He knows this. His far left base will not disappear, but I don’t think AOC and the squad will inspire the same loyalty or keep them organized.

The best recent example of a similar “movement” was Ron Paul. Where are they now?

I am not ready to count Bernie out as there is still a path forward for him on delegates, but it is pretty obvious that the DNC will not let this happen. They have now put all of their eggs into the Biden basket. A weak candidate who was declared dead for good reasons only a month ago.

That’s why AOC is trying to position herself as Bernie’s heir apparent.
