The Nazis targeted upper class Poles but the Russians carried out their extermination in the Katyn Forest massacre.
Dumbing down Poland was surely a common goal for the dictators.
Or maybe it was revenge. Polish cryptographers broke Red Army codes during the 1920 Soviet-Polish War, resulting in defeat of the Reds & the sparing of Europe. Poles later invented the Enigma machine; the cracking of its codes by Bletchley Park doomed the Wehrmacht & the U-boats.
Jews were not that tight-knit, there were generally two kinds of Jews, The Socialist Bundists and the Zionists. The Bundists abhorred the idea of a Jewish State because they felt it counter-productive to their goal of a worldwide socialist revolution.
It’s why I always say that not all Jews support Israel. Bernie is descended from “Bundists”.
The Soviets killed the Generals, the Nazis killed the rest.
So they became stronger through being killed. Zyklon B gas is an important nutrient./s
Well there was an element of selection in that at the Death Camps, those who look fit would temporarily be spared the Gas Chambers and allowed to work.
But the orders were, if they were still alive after a certain period of time, they had to go, because obviously they had superior genes and could develop into a Super Race if allowed to pro-create.
I mean “obviously” from the Nazi point of view.
Jews are now powerful because they had pogroms, he said. As a result of pogroms, the strongest and the most gifted survived. This is a warning to anti-Semites: That is why Jews are powerful, because they had pogroms. There are even theories that rabbis deliberately provoke pogroms precisely so that Jews survive and then there is natural selection.
Uh, that's artificial selection, not natural selection.
They killed more than generals. In the Katyn Massacre they killed thousands of army officers and police officers. They killed off most priests and seminarians.
It’s just mass murder.
I should have said “Officers”.
Meet my ex-brother-in-law, alive and well and dumb as a brick.
There were also traditional Torah-observant Jews, and among them there are Ashkenazim and Sephardim. Sephardim are mostly divided along lines of country of origin. Some are polygamous. Some are not. A very few still speak Ladino, but others have either switched to Hebrew or still speak Arabic among themselves. Most are less resistant to Kabballistic teachings than Ashkenazim are. Among Ashkenazim there are Chassidim and Misnagdim. Among Chassidim there are Chabadniks, Breslovers and “Polish” Chassidim. Among Chabadniks there are Meshichistim and non-Meshichistim and also Mal’achim. Among Misnagdim, there are Navaradakers and straight Litvaks. There are modern-Orthodox and Ponevichers. If two Jews are trapped on a dessert island, they will establish three synagogues, one to attend, one to boycott, and one to visit. But despite all the differences, there is a deep bond of love between Jews, not predicated solely on the basis of persecution and widespread animosity towards us. But that’s a factor, too.
Yeah, but just think how dumb he COULD have been.
Huh?
Enigma was invented by the German engineer Arthur Scherbius at the end of World War I.[2] The German firm Scherbius & Ritter, co-founded by Arthur Scherbius, patented ideas for a cipher machine in 1918 and began marketing the finished product under the brand name Enigma in 1923, initially targeted at commercial markets.[3] Early models were used commercially from the early 1920s, and adopted by military and government services of several countries, most notably Nazi Germany before and during World War II.[4](wikipedia)
That’s hard to even imagine.
You have a point. Sounds like the author was extrapolating from his remarks about pogroms.
Now in fairness, pogrom victims who get away and survive get lots of exercise from the experience. There’s running for your life, dodging Kossacks on horseback as they swing a scimitar, and zigzagging so the stones thrown by peasants miss, and scrambling through thickets, and the Adrenalin rush of abject terror, which might be recommended by some fad diets. But getting gassed or working as a slave is not at all the same experience, although the latter tend to lose weight and gain some upper body strength. So the extrapolation does not entirely hold water.
Sounds like something Hans Landa from “Inglourious Basterds” would say:
“What a tremendously hostile world that a rat must endure. Yet not only does he survive, he thrives. Because our little foe has an instinct for survival and preservation second to none... And that Monsieur is what a Jew shares with a rat.”
You hit the nail too squarely. It went right through the board.
..................
A little off balance, but maybe the authors point was lost in translation. No, off balance wins.
Auschwitz was not a “pogrom” per se. Most of the pogroms took place in the Ukraine and Russia even before WWI.
