From Hawaii to Pennsylvania, states are scrambling to blunt the impact, with roughly 700,000 people at risk of losing benefits unless they meet certain work, training or school requirements. They've filed a multi-state lawsuit, expanded publicly funded job training, developed pilot programs and doubled down efforts to reach vulnerable communities, including the homeless, rural residents and people of color.

Social service agencies say they won't be able to fill the gap, making increased homelessness and more hospital visits among the biggest concerns. Experts say theyve already seen troubling signs in some states.
"This is a cascading effect," said Robert Campbell, managing director at Feeding America, which runs hundreds of food banks nationwide. "It will increase demands on the emergency food system, food banks and pantries."
Currently, work-eligible, able-bodied adults without dependents under 50 can receive monthly benefits if they meet a 20-hour weekly work, job training or school requirement. Those who dont are are limited to three months of food stamps over three years.

They’re going to remove Eddie Murphy’s food stamps?/sarc
I have a friend that is on dialysis and has other major health issues that has left her unable to work for years.
Totally dependent on SSDI
Still has to pay a portion of her rent, spend down on healthcare, utilities, etc
All she qualifies for in terms of food stamps....$13 a month
The country cannot survive when half of the people bust their a$$es to support the other half who then give them the finger and call them racist.
43 cents per day for food is really tough. That’s a not even a. small can of pork and beans and water. ....your friend must not be a “Holders people’s “
Darwin works... if you don’t.
Just feed everybody. I do NOT have a problem with food and meds for individuals. What is a problem is government wasting money on green projects or 600 dollar toilet seats. I mean, what the hell is government for?
That is hilarious.
When I was a kid the poor people I knew were skinny, wore ragged clothes, no phone, had a total junker for a car if they had one at all, lived in a shack, did not have a TV - etc.
Today they are fat and everything else mentioned above is the opposite. Why should they work? It’s really a win win because those being kicked off of food stamps would never vote Trump anyway.
My first thoughts too, LOL.
The government should not be in the welfare business. It is the job of the Church to feed the hungry.
They are waiting for the Dems to take back the Senate and White House this year.
The government is not obligated to feed, clothe, house, or otherwise care for people who are too shiftless to care for themselves.
“The government should not be in the welfare business.”
....
If you “work” for the government, then you are a welfare case.
We are a supposedly a civilized country. We can’t have homeless and starving people. Sorry.
We have a young man in our church who was born with a serious birth defect and has been in a wheelchair most of his life. He gets some state aid to help pay for the his caretakers. He is currntly training for a job that he can perform in his wheelchair. He does as much as he can to help around the church and is a joy to be around.
Yeah , so all the people who work in the defense sector of the government are welfare cases. Got it.
The government cant give anything to anyone that it first does not take from someone else. For everyone who receives without working someone else must work without receiving. Adrian Rogers
So your definition of a civilized country is that those who work and contribute be forced to support those who do nothing. Sorry tootsie rolll I dont agree with that. Now if you were talking VOLUNTARY charity that would be a different story.
