Throwing a Block onto Erdogan's Refugee Stunt

Turkey's president will no longer stop “Syrian” refugees from fleeing into Europe.

Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said his country's borders with Europe were open Saturday, making good on a longstanding threat to let refugees into the continent as thousands of migrants gathered at the frontier with Greece. - ABC News

The first thing to notice is that not all of these refugees are from war-torn Syria.

Greek officials arrested 66 migrants Friday, 17 of whom were sentenced to 3.5 years in jail for entering the country illegally. All Afghans, they were are [sic] the first migrants sentenced for illegal entry since 2014. - ABC News

But, for the moment, let’s assume for argument’s sake that most of these refugees are “Syrian.”

Turkey is in an unenviable position. Most ot the “Syrian” refugees from their civil war have been dumped on Turkey, and Turkey is saddled with a major problem.

Turkey ... supported a Syrian refugee population that exceeded 3.6 million people. - PBS FRONTLINE

Likewise, Lebanon and Jordan are also hammered with Syrian refugees.

If the Palestinians are any indication or precedent, Turkey knows full well that those Syrians may never be welcomed back into Syria, nor assimilated into other Muslim nations, which seem to operate under the presumption that possession is nine-tenths of the law. Any nation stuck with Muslim refugees gets to keep them.

These Syrians will become the new Palestinians, and Turkey does not want that.

What is happening is an echo of the 1948 war with Israel.

I am thinking President Trump should send in James Taylor and just let them all know that they have a friend...in John Kerry.

As for the rest of us...not so much.

“why does not saudia arabia and iran take the refugees and pay all costs with oil money?”

Nobody hates the “diversity” of Muslims like other Muslims. And, SA is in serious financial trouble. Regardless of their financial condition, they don’t want Shias or any of the other smaller sects. They also don’t want even Sunnis who are not Saudi Sunnis. Only Christians are stupid enough to let the invaders in, give them socialist benefits and look the other way when they rape and honor kill.

I think, though, the EU is going to have an awakening shortly. They have run out of Other People’s Money and the population is getting tired of the relentless globalism and wealth redistribution. In addition, the actual people are getting concerned for their own safety and “their” socialist benefits. I expect progressively more violence like the yellow vest movement, to spread throughout the EU.

It is way past time for the US to either get Turkey kicked out of NATO, or for the US to leave NATO.

Turkey is going to get the US involved a another war in Europe....as a result of our pledge to help defend any NATO member.

Defend if attacked, not if they start one or pick a fight that ends up in the same arena

I agree with what you posit about NATO, that time has passed and let the Euroweenies and others defend themselves and we can stop misadventures into foreign escapades
