Was at my local Costco yesterday. No Clorox wipes anywhere. TP was down to a small stack. Noticed items in the bulk dry foods were low, which is never the case (large bags of beans and rice), rubbing alcohol completely sold out in the pharmacy area. Still plenty of food to buy, but specific prep-type items were definitely out or on the low side.
While it’s wise to have a deep larder, for emergencies, weather, golly knows what - that’s the whole point - it is much better to purchase foods one already knows how to prepare, and like to eat.
“50 lbs of Beans for $10!” might be a great deal, but what if you don’t ordinarily eat beans, or happen to much like beans? Bad Idea.
Best to try it out no matter what it is. I put up some large canned beef and bagged noodles. I figured I could make Stroganoff, I like that. Try as I might the noodles never really came out right, I cooked the hell out of them things.
And the beef? Jeeze LOUISE that was some NASTY smellin’ stuff. Holy smokes. I’m not a picky eater, but I’m glad I didn’t wait till some emergency to crack a can open. I still have a few cans of it, but I know what it’s about. Maybe if I get a dog, she’ll eat it. Maybe.
Costco ran out of their freeze dried (order online) preper food nationwide last week.
