I’ll miss his commentary. I remember watching him back in the day. Like him or hate him he tried to keep in balanced back in the day. Not so much during the Obama presidency though.

This would come out when he would discuss Watergate. He’s one of the few Democrats that you’d ever hear saying that Nixon knew nothing about the breakin. That Nixon’s guilt was trying to cover it up after he learned about it.

That fits with what Colodny and Gettlin concluded in their book Silent Coup. I’ve never heard Matthews comment on that book so I don’t know if he agrees with their thesis or not. I’d be curious to know.

A few decades ago, Matthews wasn’t totally awful on Hardball.
