A cruise ship carrying 2,000 passengers was greeted by protesters who threw stones and screamed at the crew as they tried to dock in Reunion Island because they thought the ship was infected with coronavirus.
Police were forced to use tear gas to end the ugly clash after 30 locals from the French Republic, east of Madagascar, gathered as the Sun Princess docked on March 1.
Protesters were concerned people on board could be carrying coronavirus after the ship docked in Thailand in early February.
The disease has infected more than 88,000 people in 60 countries across the globe, killing at least 3,000.
Demonstrators refused to let passengers, who are mostly from Australia and New Zealand, disembark the ship, and threw bottles and rocks at security who tried to usher people past.
Local media claims others set fire to trash cans and blocked roads before they were eventually stopped by heavily armed police, who used tear gas to get protesters under control...

OK, this is panic.
But local government could insist on some testing of some, and eval of all passengers and not be unreasonable.

I’m really stressed, a nice long cruise to Asia sounds like just the ticket to unwind.

I missed it...5 weeks ago was perfect. Even now, I don’t think investors have priced-in the psychological damage to the ‘industry’. I expect, by this time next year, all of the large cruise lines to be bankrupt, as it’s hard to make payments on their huge vessels when no one is booking anything.
Similarly, I expect much the same for airlines which fly overseas for much of their market. Domestic airlines may survive, but only if the virus isn’t perceived as exploding here. In any case, unlike cruise ships, airlines will get bailed out as a critical ‘industry’.
I love cruises, but I will never take another one after this coronavirus nightmare.

Medically paralyzed on a ventilator. Not even having to breath on your own. Relaxation like no other.
Cruise ships are floating petri-dishes and airliners are flying petri-dishes.
On the one hand, they’ve got the coronavirus. On the other hand, Reunion is the site of numerous fatal shark attacks. What a choice!
Those attacks will stop once the sharks start worrying about the coronavirus.
I’d throw rocks just because they were Australians.

Go to the seediest parts of town at 2am and find an ATM.
Withdraw a box of cash and then just stand around for a few minutes.
Great way to unwind and get some shooting practice
I hate the thought of a cruise and that was before people getting sick and before the Corona con Lima virus
