The technology has existed for several years to do away with “Checking out” altogether. RFID chips in merchandise and a reader at the exits will allow you to simply load up a cart and push it out to your self driving car. Your account will be automatically debited as you leave the store.
Do they attach RFID chips to each piece of fruit/vegetable?

Some of us don’t want to be that enmeshed in the matrix.
I have a debit card I use for two bills I pay by phone. All else is cash.
I have used the self-checkout lane a few times when purchasing one or two items. Most of the time I use the cashier manned checkout. It gives me one more chance for human contact during the day. I usually have good experiences with them. No mashed bread or broken eggs.
