Coronavirus: When All Else Fails, Try Reason

I’m phlegmatic by nature. It gives me an edge up when mass hysteria seems to take up so much space in the news and the pronouncements of Democratic leaders. Looking at the best information available to me, I find it beyond question that the President has taken the right steps to deal with this variant flu; that few people in this country will perish from it; that while there may be some economic consequences of the supply disruption from China, the fact that we’ve been decoupling ourselves from China under this administration means they are likely to be smaller and more short-lived than the market manipulators would have us believe.

1. What is the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and How Does it Compare to the Flu?

The most informative reports I can find on this are from Johns Hopkins Medicine, the New England Journal of Medicine, and the Director of the CDC.

One of the difficulties of diagnosing those stricken with this novel virus is the symptoms are very similar to those of the other more common infectious respiratory illnesses we call flu. We have a vaccine to prevent some of the most dangerous types of flu or to reduce its severity. Right now, there is no vaccine to treat the new virus. (But Israeli researchers believe they will have one in weeks. Of course, it will be longer than weeks to bring it to market, but if it proves effective this virus, which is likely to be around the world for a long time will prove even less lethal than it presently is.)

It’s not the flu. Any more than Ebola is not the flu. Chicken pox isn’t the flu. Pneumonia is not the flu. Tuberculosis is not the flu.

But, the President compares it to the flu.

So, we waste time talking about how it’s not the flu.

If there were 80,000 increase in TB on top of the flu you could be shit sure that people would be acting.

This is not an either/or situation. It’s concurrent. Can Americans not grasp that?

It's comparable to the flu in how it spreads. It might spread far less though based on the Chinese case numbers. It's about 10x higher mortality than the flu. 20x or more in China is due to substandard care. The Iran numbers are due to previously nonexistent testing. They are completely inapplicable.

Also, Trump is probably 100% correct that this fades away in April. We don't know for sure, but it's very likely. It will stay endemic where it has spread, but it will be easier to track outside of flu season.

OK, smartypants, this Corona virus strain is like the common cold, since strains of the coronavirus are the common cold.

With demodrones, no subject is reasonable. Even viruses.

“Can Americans not grasp that?”

Do you need to ask. Americans can’t even grasp the implications of China being shutdown, even though nearly half of their consumer items say “Made in China” and much (maybe most) of the other half of their items (domestic and imported) have now non-available Chinese content.

The secret to a great steak is to add a pat of butter after flipping it on the grill.
This accentuates the flavor of the fats.

Do you know the difference between a Coronavirus and a Rhinovirus? I thought not. Rhinovirus is the common cold. It’s a different “model.”

Also, you completely missed the point.

The hospitals are full...as they are every year. If we dropped several tens of thousands of cases of ANYTHING on them, there will be problems.

That, singular issue, will cause disruption.

I am NOT saying anyone is going to die. I AM saying, in some hospitals they will be treating people in the conference rooms.

There is simply not enough capacity to handle anything out of the norm these days. Hospitals are not sitting there with open beds.

Does infrared kill germs and bacteria that might be on products from say, China?

GLOBALISM is the problem. China engineered a bioweapon that got out. We need to shut ALL borders until the smoke clears from this. Better to be cautious.

Trump is falling into a trap minimizing this because it’s only going to get bigger in the days and weeks ahead. Instead, he should treat it like 9/11 and do a Manhattan-style project to find a solution.

CLOSE THE BORDERS. This also shows the need for a wall at our southern border.

“Do you know the difference between a Coronavirus and a Rhinovirus? I thought not.”

That’s because you’re an arrogant little kid who thinks he know everything about everybody.

Your dramabug postings show that you don’t know the first thing about microbiology.

Listen, Sunshine, you don’t know the first thing about COVID-19, but you sure like to run around like a little girl looking for attention screaming about some kind of drama.

“ It’s not the flu. Any more than Ebola is not the flu. Chicken pox isn’t the flu. Pneumonia is not the flu. Tuberculosis is not the flu.”

It’s a whole heck of a lot closer to the flu than any of those other diseases you mention.

It’s a viral attack on the respiratory system and the symptoms and treatments are exactly the same as the flu.

But don’t let me disturb your panic. Here....I’ll help:

BOO!

“Does infrared kill germs and bacteria that might be on products from say, China?”

Infrared light no, high intensity infrared heat might but it lively will melt the product. Ultraviolet C light at high enough intensity will kill most bacteria and viruses you would not want to have skin or your eyes.anywhere near UVC intense enough to kill those in anytime frame under an hour exposed.

Did you even read the post?

Go back. Read it all the way through. You can use your finger. Sound out the words. You can even move your mouth.

Go ahead. Take a few minutes.

Then come back and we can discuss the point.

...since strains of the coronavirus are the common cold.

Where is the vaccine for the common cold? I don't expect you to be able to answer, it just seemed like a good place to put the question out there.

It’s also like SARS or MERS, since those are also strains of coronavirus.
