After missteps, CDC says its coronavirus test kit is ready for primetime

Some states received test kits that were inconclusive or only partially accurate. Other states said they were hamstrung by testing criteria so narrow, it limited who they could screen for the new coronavirus.
For more than a month, officials throughout the country have been asking the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to enable more widespread testing for the never-before-seen infection, as coronavirus cases around the globe rose past 82,000.
But technical difficulties reduced the number of laboratories in the U.S. with working test kits to only about a dozen, including CDC headquarters in Atlanta. That delayed results for suspected patients and frustrated public health authorities.
Things changed this week: Top federal health officials announced they had modified the testing protocol, expanded criteria for who could be tested and worked out the technical problems with the tests, positioning more state and local laboratories to finally have the ability to test for COVID-19, the illness caused by the new coronavirus. But, the officials acknowledged, the process was rocky.

If she screwed this up intentionally in order to hurt the President, may she be swinging from a rope when this is all over.

I figure state and local health departments, along with good medical professionals, can take care of most of this. They seem to be the way to go, given the CDC’s towering incompetence in this matter. Most people in this country will be smart enough to self-quarantine or limit outside trips if diagnosed with this virus.

Hopefully, the dittohead trolls are right on the idea that, like the flu, this will go away as temperatures rise, giving us breathing room to develop the vaccine before next winter.

A doc said they can identity it with a CAT scan, which nearly every hospital can do.
*******************************************
They cant give every patient presenting with a slight cough and a temporary spike in temperature a chest CAT scan.

The other sense in which such issues "go away" is the news cycle. Right now the US has not had working test kits available. In the next month you should see the results from testing with the fixed kits. If they detect tens of thousands of new cases that will be big news, at least for a while, but researchers are also working on treatments and vaccines.
Dems are probably fuming that this happened 9 months before the election instead of 3 months.
