Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham signed red flag legislation into law on Tuesday, and told sheriffs who oppose the law that they should resign if they wont enforce any gun seizure orders. The vast majority of the states sheriffs spoke out in opposition to the legislation before it was narrowly approved by the state legislature, and the head of the state sheriffs association rejected Grishams call to resign after her remarks during the signing ceremony.
New Mexico Sheriffs Association President Tony Mace of Cibola County said the new law goes too far by potentially impounding guns before any crime is committed and that he and other sheriffs will assert their discretion over its enforcement.
We dont work for the governor, we dont work for the Legislature, he said. We work for the people that elected us into office.
Sheriff Mace has told Bearing Arms that hes willing to face contempt charges before hell seize anyones firearms under a red flag order, and he and other sheriffs have vowed to challenge the law in court as well.
Gun control activists in the state, meanwhile, say they plan on launching a public awareness campaign to let residents know how easy it is to file a red flag petition.

But “sanctuary city’ officials?
Hey, it’s quite OK
File a “red flag” petition against every member of the governor’s protection detail...
So, tell the “Red” to go f himself-— he hath not the power, under our Constitution. And be assured the people have ID’d the a-holes who passed this “law”. The sheriffs in each bailiwick KNOW who the bad eggs are— law enforcement is close to the people... by design. And not to be used for political thuggery. Sic Semper Tyrannis.
Oh gosh, that SCOTUS decision that said there is no compulsion by officers to enforce the law that liberals were so excited about might come back to bite them. So sad...
Sheriffs in New Mexico are elected. They answer to their county, not to the Governor.
We dont work for the governor, we dont work for the Legislature, he said. We work for the people that elected us into office.
Nazi Germany, “You Vill Obey or you Vill Be shot!”
NO. YOUR MOVE.

And be ready for a civil lawsuit for doing so.
Nothing like turning people against one another. The Democrat creed.
We may be coming to that.
Well, we need our patriot sheriffs identified.
Then, we need to then show them strong support.
Then, vote out all lefty sheriffs.
Hey Gov...uphold the Constitution as you swore to do so or GTFO!
Aren't sheriffs elected - rather than appointed (e.g., by the Governor) - in many localities?
Could namely understand the Governor saying that if he had appointed those sheriffs, but not if they were elected by the locals, in which case they are serving at the pleasure of the citizens.
Regards,
It should NOT be “easy” to file a red flag law.
Dear Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham,
Opinions vary. Thank you so much for sharing yours.
Sincerely,
NM Sheriffs.
Yup. Same in FL and in NV. Sheriffs are elected not appointed.
Yet another reason to not move to new mexico...too many leftist losers there. The guv is an absolute leftist, fascist nitwit.
Sad dang thing too because NM is beautiful. Butt, so is kali.
