Trump's Chances For Re-election Are Looking Better and Better

Donald Trump has at least five strong historical arguments for his re-election.

One, he is an incumbent. Incumbent presidents have won 14 of 19 re-election bids since 1900.

The few who lost did not enjoy positive approval ratings. In a Gallup poll from earlier this month, Trump enjoyed his highest approval rating since his inauguration, squeezing out a 49 percent favorable rating vs. 50 percent unfavorable.

Two, the public perception of the economy usually determines any presidential election -- as incumbents Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, George H.W. Bush and Herbert Hoover learned the hard way. Currently, the U.S. is enjoying low inflation, low interest rates, positive economic growth, near-record low-unemployment, rising workers' wages, and record gas and oil production.

Three, unpopular optional wars derail incumbent presidencies.

The quagmire in Vietnam convinced Lyndon Johnson not to run for re-election in 1968. Jimmy Carter was tarnished by the seemingly never-ending Iranian hostage crisis of 1979-1981. The Iraq War drove down George W. Bush's second-term approval ratings and helped derail his would-be Republican successor, John McCain.

Four, scandals also can destroy a presidency, as when Watergate forced the resignation of Richard Nixon.

Five, the opponent matters. Barry Goldwater was caricatured as an out-of-touch extremist and made incumbent Lyndon Johnson's election a sure thing in 1964. George McGovern's radicalism ensured that Richard Nixon would be re-elected in 1972. Ronald Reagan was assured of a second term by Walter Mondale's anemic candidacy.

Hope for the world is looking better and better!

My 6th greater got on a rant a few days ago about "social justice warriors":

"The only teachers in my school who don't try to tell us what to think are conservative Republicans. They tell us to make up our own minds. The rest them are always trying to indoctrinate us."

How many "conservative Republican" teachers are there," I asked.

"There are two."

In the past, when asked if it's cool to be a "social justice warrior," he said: "Actually it's kinda cool to trash on those kinds of people."

With all due respect to Mr. Hanson, good citizens are not about to forget eight years of oppression under lawless Obama and the worthless Congress that we are still stuck with.

Supporting PDJT with a new patriot Congress that will promise to fully support his already excellent work for MAGA will effectively give fast-working Trump a third term in office imo.

Maybe, they are taking the internet away from his supporters. This will hurt.

The Donald at Redditt is the biggest source of Trump support and it’s getting shut down.

This is nothing but another exploding cigar.

They don’t learn.

Putting VP Pence in charge is a great move. You don’t get higher up the chain.

This is going to go the way of Ebola.

Victor, you are generally very correct. Here's hoping you are right.

"Just stating a fact. Please feel free to bury your head in the sand and take the November election as a given. You may well wake up on November 4th a very disappointed man and you can ask Hillary supporters what that feels like. Me, I think we should run as if we are five points behind up to election day and take nothing for granted. That's how you win, incumbent or no."

I've been following your back and forth here.

You, DoodleDawg, are correct here.

It is a long time 'til November, and it is BEST to behave as if we are behind and NOT comfortably in the lead.

There are way too many ignorant potential legal and illegal voters out there.

****

Be well .....
