he coronavirus is coming yet the federal government’s response remains lackluster. Bizarrely, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has so far refused to green-light American labs’ attempts to test for the life-threatening illness, thereby prompting plenty of criticism and angry letters.
The Association of Public Health Laboratories has asked the agency for permission to develop tests for the virus, but their pleas have been met with persistent foot-dragging. The FDA’s frustrating risk aversion is nothing new, and things will not change absent a wholesale reevaluation of the agency’s mission. The country cannot wait for bureaucrats’ delay tactics. ---

Pence should probably start with testing.
If they test, the results will likely show broader spread of the Chinese Coronavirus Plague. No testing is head-in-sand to dismiss infection rates.
What is your take add to why they aren’t doing more testing? Surely we have the capability yet south Korea’s has tested hundreds of thousands.
Jeff someone posted here today that 7,000 people in CA. had been put on home quarantine nothing could have been further from the truth!!!
Today, failure to develop tests and use them means that we really don't know the spread, even if mild. Consider one of the observations, that gives China cover in reporting low numbers, is that they lack test kits.
Dragging feet and delaying test development and usage suggests folks don't want to know real spread unless someone is in hospital or dead. Maybe even then.
Besides, if we had an effective test, it could be used on everyone crossing the border or entering the US.
So, foot dragging suggests we (the government) may not want to have undeniable proof of spread.
Maybe there are other reasons to delay testing...

Testing can be a long and fruitless process since false pos, false neg have been reported common, and some victims require multiple tests over 14-21 days to confirm a pos. One victim returned pos after testing neg 8 times.
Many of the cruise ship pax returning to multiple countries ( US Israel Australia) who tested neg before evacuation are now testing pos
So how much of our medical establishment are going to be tied up testing thousands - or more - all in quarantine for the entire process

Real doctors performing real medical research have to follow real medical procedures and standards. Those are higher standards compared to just raising the alarm. There are several drugs being tested right now to see how well they work. This takes time.
There is testing being conducted every day of any who they believe have been exposed.
To say there is no testing is a lie to gain political advantage.

are you sure? there are numerous reports of people self-quarantining because of flights they took and other concerns. 7,000 in California seems a lot but who knows, maybe not. There are around 40 million people in California so 7,000 is only 0.000175% of the state population, which is very small number in context. Besides, in January 2020 alone over 6 million people arrived at LAX. Of that number, 7,000 is only 0.001167%.
This IS total BS I live in this state and this article coming from SF doesn’t surprise me one damn bit!!!
I live in CA. and there has been NO local reports on this what so ever NONE!!!
