I like this one:

“Consider the worst-case scenario where the U.S. imports all of its steel from foreign countries...(what will happen) - the market price of steel would skyrocket (and we’ll get back into production”

I doubt this guy ever talked to anyone who has tried to build and open a pharmaceutical plant here. It doesn’t happen overnight, but people will die, millions of them, in the time it takes to get that plant running.

I guess that’s the difference between the academic world and the real world.

“Environmental rules add a tiny fraction as a percent to retail costs. Also, unions are almost non existent. Those are straw man arguments. Only a true protectionist can be a Patriot.”

Yea, I knew you’d push back. Doesn’t change my points though...if it’s a strategic capability, we should employ the same rules on both unions and environment as the rest of the world - otherwise it WILL cost us in our standard of living.

“Sure throw away jobs, that will get the GOP a majority.”

I still could care less who makes X-Boxes.

Hopefully, in a just world, only Free Traitors™ and their families will die off while we tool up production.

I get it. Why would a traitor care?

The GOP would rather be a minority party of cheap labor, off shoring, Wall Street, open borders and globalism rather than morph into a majority party of working Americans and a real counter to Socialism.

LOL - you still haven’t figured out that I’m on your side...but I also lived through the hell that strong unions caused this country, until Reagan and Globalism put an end to their power.

To be a Patriot you have to be a Nationalist, and to be Nationalist you HAVE TO ALSO BE PROTECTIONIST(pro tariff). Those are the rules, I didn’t make them.

I’d love to see a trade agreement, but only if it is beneficial to both countries. I’d love to see Brazil be honored with something as a reward for turning into a capitalist economy.

I am very much against this. Tariffs should be fair and uniform levied against specific products we want to repatriate the manufacture of same to the USA ( which is all of them IMO ). Tariffs should not target or favor a specific country. The USA still doesn't get it.

I have to disagree. Every country is different so our trade agreements should be unique by country for optimal benefit to the US.

We can still target individual products to maximize domestic manufacturing. I think we can achieve your goals while also tailoring the tariffs to each country.

Explain how a Nationalist can also be against protectionism at the same time. Ever read US history? I think not.

Simple - Nationalists simply DO NOT want this country to turn inward and become the 21st Century Albania. But, like I said, we all have our own definitions.
