OK... Now I've read the fascinating article (they always are)...
The major thing, so far, that I take from this is that they are approaching the problem via "diversity"... They are using a lot of transgender helium atoms...

Lots of people have produced fusion reactions. The trick is, producing SUSTAINED fusion, which reliably and sustainably releases more energy than is consumed from triggering the reaction.
