When a man marries another man, does one of them change their name? I have been curious about the country of origin for the name Buttigieg. Google doesnt know.

As reported by another Freeper here, the origin appears to be Maltese. Just did a search for ‘ethnic origin of surname Buttigieg’
At first I suspected it could be German, but a check on the christoph-Stoepel.net website indicated the name is not German.

It’s from Malta, but farther back it has its origin in the Sicilian Arabic, Abu Dajjaj, which means “father of chicken.” I kid you not. I heard that on the radio, have seen it on the web, and verified it with an Arabic speaker I know.
