This might be an unpopular opinion but if people want the death penalty for peds they should sack up and do it the right way through the justice system. It shows extreme sloppiness and carelessness to surrender authority to felons to go on unsanctioned hits themselves whenever they want. Its all fun and games until your falsely accused 18 yo son is beaten to death in the county slammer because he statutorily raped his 17.9 yo gf. The men in this particular example may have been scum but vigilante felons are not known to be fastidious about checking paperwork.

I have long objected to the idea that people in prison should not be protected from abuse. Many people make jokes about some large man raping people in prison, but the state has a duty and an obligation to insure people in it's custody are not killed or injured.

And yes, the legal definition of "child" in this context is far too broad.

Oh, come on man... sincerely sorry if the experience you just described is your own.

Otherwise, why harsh everybody's fun like that? Gotta admit the guy had a practical point. It's just unfortunate that he couldn't have jumped in a time machine and gone back and got them pre-emptively BEFORE they did what they did, then the Governor could give him a pardon and he could have a parade and stuff.

And yes, so long as we're getting all serious about it, it's a fair bet that he was abused as a kid.

+1 for him getting their rations. :)

I agree, not too many friends here, but then after all, what separates us from pre-historic societies, with vigilante justice and revenge killings, other than our judicial system, with checks and balances?

There are two problems that I see: First, where does it end? Today, child molesters, tomorrow, old-age attackers, Sunday, maybe speeding tickets?

The other problem...on the other side too, is whether a TOTALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL criminal justice system (i.e., California) is capable, anymore, of protecting society from these animals. In many cases now, the answer is NO.

So, in the end, I’m mixed on this.

It’s typical for CaCa prisons. Similar to 3rd world prisons, Turkish prisons etc.

So you are saying that 18 year olds who stautorily rape their 17.9 yo girlfriends should get the death penalty?

We tried that, and the Supreme Court exceeded their authority in ruling it unconstitutional - Kennedy v. Louisiana, 554 U.S. 407 (2008, Justices Kennedy, Stevens, Souter, Ginsburg, Breyer in the majority). I still agree with you that we have a responsibility to keep prisoners safe from harm when they are locked up, but the solution you suggest has been foreclosed by activist judges.

If the state incarcerates people, the state is responsible for their safety, regardless of their crimes.

If we want the death penalty, give them death at the hands of the state.

Had the justice system worked the first time, those two child molesters would have been hanged rather than being put into the lockup.

Yup. The details matter, especially today where it's so easy to be screwed by what is essentially a technicality. You and I can commit 5 felonies a day and not even be aware of it. It is also a fact that bad things are going to happen to folks in prison. I do not know how such things can be avoided in every case, even it one tries to do so.

Then again, sometimes justice is served despite the legal system doing its best not to allow it.

Prisoner usually know the difference

Your kid is in far greater danger from blacks in county jail if he’s a soft upper middle class white boy

Get him out immediately
