The 14 coronavirus-stricken Americans evacuated from a cruise ship in Japan were flown back to the US on a plane full of healthy people against advice from the CDC, a report said Thursday.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention officials argued the 14 infected Diamond Princess passengers shouldn’t be flown back with the about 300 virus-free people — but ultimately lost the battle to the US State Department, according to The Washington Post.
“It was like the worst nightmare,” an anonymous senior U.S. official involved in the decision told the paper.
“Quite frankly, the alternative could have been pulling grandma out in the pouring rain, and that would have been bad, too.”

That’s what it was. They were flying Americans on the Princess back home, but 14 tested positive when they tested them after leaving the ship. Given the size of that number, it’s quite likely that several others sitting in the unprotected area of the plane were also infected, but were still testing negative because it seems people who have been infected take a while to have it show up on the test.
Also, I thought there were two planeloads involved, but I could be wrong about that.

The fact is these Americans were handled correctly. Brought home to better care and a chance of staying alive.
The State Dept was correct. The CDC is full of Trump haters don't give them ammo.

I see the story does say there were two planes involved, by the way.
Also, it says there were infectious disease doctors on the planes. I can’t imagine them making that trip without full protective gear even if those 14 infected people weren’t on board. But once they were known to the doctors, you’d think they all would have worn protective gear regardless.
You’d also think they’d have at least passed out masks to the other passengers, especially since it’s likely some of them were also infected from being on the ship. Maybe they did?
I’ll bet the State Dept. has a lot more Trump haters than the CDC, even percentage wise. Way more.
And from the picture it looks like the passengers were at the back of the plane, or at least behind the box, assuming that’s a picture from one of the flights, that is.

There was a video of the flight I watched at the time. Was impressed, however not so with the asymptomatic carriers. I couldn’t find that, however this is a picture from it.
If I were ever stupid enough to be on a quarantined cruise ship I would be happy to be lifted off to return home.

I assume you meant to say Gutting the CDC.
And I’ll stand by what I said. The CDC has a ton of scientists. It’s unlikely the cuts are aimed at them specifically, and it’s unlikely they are mostly liberals.
The State Dept. is all bureaucrats and I’d bet that 90% of them are liberal Democrats, or more.

I am not totally disagreeing but over this lady month in review the venom is on their collective breath at the CDC.
It’s the US State Department; their nothing but a bunch of communist, Stalin loving asswipes, have been since 1914.
They have hated TRUMP since the day he got elected.
They should all be dragged out of Foggy Bottom and shot in the head along the banks of the Potomac River.
Kick the bodies into the river, fish gotta eat to.
And when they got to their destination, they hugged family and friends who went home to their family and friends who all then went to work or school or shopping the next day.
The State Department - just who I want to decide infectious disease protocols for transporting people potentially infected with an extremely virulent virus.
Pompeo should have been forced to fly on this plane.
If passengers on this jet become infected, who here thinks that the State Dept will be held accountable? .fedgov types are excel at avoiding accountability.
