But a Vet and Vietnam combat vet (my brother-in-law) said he's 'West Point Ranger' -- Meaning he did not go to Ranger school, but was given more of an 'honorary' Ranger ribbon.
Can anyone shed some additional light on that?
There are a select number of West Point cadets that attend Ranger school while at the academy. There are far more active duty personnel that go to Ranger school just to get the tab and punch a ticket for promotion, but never do an assignment in the 75th Ranger Regiment or any other infantry or combat arms unit. Then there are those who earn their tab and do duty with an infantry unit, a Ranger battalion, a Special Forces group or USASOC. I honestly don’t know Vindman’s history, but after watching his performance in his testimony, I’m shocked that he wasn’t “peered out” of Ranger school.
