Britain announces immigration policy barring unskilled migrants

Britain announced an immigration policy Wednesday that would prevent unskilled migrants from entering the country, requiring migrants to be English-speaking and have a job.

Home Secretary Priti Patel said the new policy will make it easier for “the brightest and the best from around the world” to enter the country, calling it a “historic moment for the whole country.”

The plan, which is intended to go into effect Jan. 1, 2021, aims to reduce the country’s reliance on “low-skilled” migrants and push companies to develop technology and automation.

It is encouraging firms to recruit foreigners “with greatest talents,” such as “scientists, engineers, academics and other highly-skilled workers,” according to the government's description of the policy.

“We need to shift the focus of our economy away from a reliance on cheap labor from Europe and instead concentrate on investment in technology and automation,” the Home Office announced.

Patel asserted in various TV and radio interviews Wednesday that businesses need to focus on recruiting “economically inactive” British-born adults between the ages of 16 and 64, instead of bringing migrants into the country.

The Home secretary requested firms dial in on the British natives and “up their skills and make their skills relevant,” according to The Guardian.

The immigration policy will overhaul current rules and create a “points-based” system, in which migrants need to meet a threshold based on their skills, qualifications and potential salaries, according to the government policy paper.

In addition to speaking English, migrants need to prove they have a job offer from a known employer with a minimum 25,600 pound (about $33,000) salary.

President Trump and the White House announced a similar "merit-based" plan in May, promoting immigration for those who speak English and have college degrees over other immigrants.

Why in the world would England require itself to be populated by English speaking people? </sarcasm>

Several decades late but better late than never.

Now to kick out the several million fitting that description who flooded in over the last 20 years or so.

Nannies are covered who, if Bloomie’s advice is taken, aren’t particularly skilled.

Britain announces immigration policy barring unskilled migrants

Better late than never...makes a person wonder if other European countries will adopt similar policies instead of loading up with a good percentage of freeloaders.

This cuts both ways. Just as with our H-1b visas, skilled immigrant workers will displace skilled domestic workers at lower pay. Not only will they take their jobs, but their place in the working middle class, pushing the Brit (or American) workers down the societal ladder, under the new immigrant middle class.

While it is wise to only accept immigrants who make your country “better”, you must choose wisely so as not to undermine your own subjects/citizens.

Look no further than San Francisco and the Silicon Valley to see skilled Asian and Indian immigrants widely displacing skilled American workers, with entire communities of 7-figure priced homes changing demographics. Adding these alternative pools of labor from s%^&hole countries breaks our capitalist labor market, artificially lowers wages and reduces opportunity for our own people.

These workers also send much of their money back home, stealing significant wealth from our economy. But at least these “skilled” workers don’t bring nearly the amount of crime with them as unskilled and illegal workers.

Supposedly, Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada have had those requirements for decades.

A relative with a PHD in a needed area, was/is very inventive and creative. He made a small fortune with his ideals and creativity.

In the early 70’s he decided to move to one of the 4 countries and play golf, fish and hunt and to avoid taxes in America.

All 4 countries told him that he could only get like a 90 day passport and then leave. Unless he signed up to work/practice his PHD and teach it in their universities.

Australia would have allowed him to play golf if he created his own golf club manufacturing company. They would have allowed him 3 seasons of playing golf and at the same time create his company to make and sell his golf clubs at a very high tax rate.

He stayed here.
