A Cedar Rapids man who was arrested Monday is accused of holding a woman captive and forcing her to watch Roots a nine-hour miniseries that chronicles author Alex Haleys family line from the capture and enslavement of his ancestor Kunta Kinte to the liberation of Kintes descendants.
Robert Lee Noye, 52, forced the woman to sit with him, at a residence in the 700 block of Second Avenue SW and watch the series so she could better understand her racism, according to a criminal complaint.
When she tried to move, Noye told her to remain seated and watch the movie with him or he would kill her and spread her body parts across Interstate 380 on the way to Chicago, the complaint said.
Noye faces charges of first-degree harassment and false imprisonment.

You may be a racist if you kidnap someone and force them to watch a fictional teledrama.
“nine-hour slog through a fictionalized rendition of Alex Haleys family line.”
That is a particularly heinous thing to do to someone. Hats off to show biz; Roots was very effective propaganda. An entire generation was willing to unquestioningly lap up anything in a tv mini-series.
Oh those wild and crazy Low IQers!
Kill the bastard.
“Roots” isn’t a story of a Bleached Blonde’s life-long struggle?
Wow. Trying not to laugh while Toby was getting whipped must have been really hard.
What color was the woman?

I think we need a national discussion about racism. Exactly how should it properly be defined?
Regarding blacks, this land of opportunity has worked well for them for they have substantial numbers in every aspect of American society and modern culture. And they have become successful because the white people willed it happen. I know of no area of American life where black people are not only welcome, but are already succeeding. Is it necessary to continue coddling them by guarding words, yearbook pictures, etc??
Some would point to churches and say they remain segregated. And it appears so. But I don’t of a single church with a white congregation that would not accept a black member. In fact many have campaigned to recruit blacks. But, it is the blacks who prefer to worship together.
This racism rant must come to an end.
Except for a few small, insignificant pockets where it will never be eradicated, America is not a racist nation.
I read an article in the newspaper quite a few years ago. It was by two professional genealogists. They basically ripped it to shreds saying it wasn’t even up to the standards of amateur genealogists.
Some of the characters were real people but not who Haley said they were. They particularly disliked his claiming kin to the Lea family of Virginia when he wasn’t.
Probably 80% of Americans treat “Roots” as like the Bible except even better. It is filled with pure hatred of Whites.
I can’t believe we used to watch all those miniseries....
He may then appreciate what his forefathers and those into the 60s went through.
I can just imagine the reaction from MLK when students are clamoring for separate facilities in colleges etc.
Like the man said,
'Next thing you know they will be wanting their own drinking fountains and toilets'
I remember Roots being promoted all the time. I was 6 or so but didn’t watch any I think.
Masada came out later and I watched it all the way through.
A RACIST forced a woman to watch a miniseries based on the fictional fantasies of a Black conman you say?
