Through Merkel's policies, the CDU/CSU have been shorn of their conservative principles and become nearly indistinguishable from Germany's extremist Die Grünen ("the Greens") and its dying Sozial Demokratische Partei Deutschlands (the old socialists, or "SPD").

Seing as she was born in ‘West side of Germany’ but raised in EAST Berlin, one would imagine she grew up HATING all on the other side of the ‘wall’.

Gets herself elected and now playing out all her childhood fantasies about screwing the West.....

Yes, I was born and raised in Germany. I became a Naturalized US Citizen on June 12, 1978 in Junction City, KS. The celebration was two days later at the President Dwight D. Eisenhower Center in Abilene KS.

Merkel means absolutely nothing to me, but they need to get rid of her.

BTW I only voted once in the Election in Germany and that was on September 2, 1962, I had turned 21 on August 6. My husband, who was stationed about 10-15 miles from my hometown and I had been engaged and we waited for the permission to get married. Anyway I never voted in any election in Germany and I only paid attention to the American elections via AFN radio.

She was born in Hamburg, but her father moved to East Berlin with his wife and family. I assume he was unable to return back to West Germany.

I had an Aunt (one of my father's sisters) who had gone to Leipzig to work before the war and was never able to return to West Germany. She had a baby, my cousin who is a couple month older than I. She met her husband and they had a son. I remember my aunt and cousin Barbara visiting us a couple of times, but after the wall was built they were never able to come for a visit. My cousin and I were both 13 as I recall. I do remember my parents used to send them care packages especially for the Christmas season so my aunt could bake Christmas cookies.
