“we’ll have no more Republican presidents”

We may, if one comes from outside the party like Trump.

Spot On.

Thornberry is a big defense contractor guy. He is also my soon retiring congressman. He had nothing to do with the rank and file Republicans in his congressional district. Lots of monied donors but nothing for the counties Party working to fund political action and activities

A big player for Bell Helicopter, etc. His reward for all that got him re-elected and no real competition for primary. Like John Cornyn, you could count on Thornberry for a Christmas card and a peep to the people at election time, but go down-under and burrow back into the DC theater for another four.

Thornberry has a lower profile than Big Foot, until curiously, now, when Money is involved, for Defense, but bypassed his imprimatur. Hmmm.

Old Mack is doing this to enhance his resume to get a nice lobbying job with some defense contractor when he retires at the end of this term when he is retiring. Ignore him.

Thornberry is a douche bag for this. I read that most of the funds are being diverted from budget items that the DoD never asked for, i.e. Congressional pork.

But not enough to override a veto.

Case closed, Trump wins yet again.

But the pearl clutching gloom and doomers will be at it again.

Elect a strong border enforcement Rep in his place.

Trump is different, but he’ll be gone by 2024 at the latest, then it’s back to the elitist Bushism as usual.

So, what’s the alternative? Vote for RATs? Or just stay home and let the RATs take every seat in Congress?

I’m not happy with the GOPe but the alternative is unthinkable.

If I can’t vote FOR a candidate, I can at least vote AGAINST a candidate.

I voted FOR Donald Trump. I twice voted AGAINST Barack Obama.

As for returning to “elitist Bushism,” it remains to be seen whether Trump can effect a populist revolution in the GOP.

Certainly, that’s what the GOP base wants, considering Trump’s remarkably high approval ratings.

There are still a lot of weaklings among GOP legislators, but the RATs have made politics so toxic that the best people don’t want to run for public office.

And the good people who do get elected are soon cowed by a hostile media.

How would you like it if someone called you “racist” every time you opened your mouth?

I’m no optimist but I note that what ought to be a healthy skepticism on these threads often slides into the realm of defeatism. And that’s a guaranteed formula for apathy and failure.

It can’t be built along the border, i.e. a wall in the middle of the Rio Grande. So what would you propose to get it closer from where it is?

A real “wall” needs to built into our law ... no anchor babies, active deportation, no family anchor or lottery, no cheap labor express (H1B), no welfare, anyone already here illegally - never any path to citizenship, etc etc for as Nancy recently reminded us repeatedly - “No one is above the law.” That news will get out, and less people outside the US will see no advantage to endure hardship to get here illegally. The majority of the elected political class however, isn’t interested in this or any other wall.
